Had the girls here for the weekend, and since we got daddy smacked with that big snow storm this weekend, and our sissy governor decided to declare a state of emergency on the whole state....I guess the road crews take the next 48 hours off. :iroll:
Needless to say, there was no way the Ex and I could make this trip (4 -5 hours round trip minimum) to swap the kids back out. The roads were practically impassible.
Long story short, tonight...more the 24 hours later...I find myself tooling down the freeway with the girls in the big F150 at a daring 53 mph :iroll:
The highway is covered with ice and snow, everyone's going the same speed, and it's bumper to bumper because of it.
I look down at the speedometer and it breaks away from 53mph and is screaming for 60, then 70, then 80 :sad3: and I'm not going a bit faster...all of a sudden here's comes my own tail lights taking up the back stretch. :sick2:
I think I aged another 10 years tonight.
Three hours of that , then turn around and do it all again on the way home.....this time in the dark.
I seriously thought my transmission was falling out a couple times, as the rear wheels would brake lose at the mere thought of my foot touching the gas pedal :iroll:
"Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh it's a good day to be alive", he said as he sat in the living room sporting his slippers. :whew:
Glad you made it safely home Jim. Is that a meet in the middle trip or did you take the girls all the way home?
Pat
Glad you made it back too Jim!! It was like that this AM here when I took Diane to work. Luckily it's just a 15 minute trip each way & no highways. :whew: I don't mind driving in the snow but when it rains all day prior it gets interesting.
Glad ya all made it back safe and sound Jim. ;yes;
It takes a lot out of a guy doesn't it.
I can hear the sigh and feel the relief from here as ya put those slippers on and grab a seat. :eyebrownod:
Pat, that depends on who you talk to.
Since you asked me, it's about about 15 minutes short of halfway for me.
If you ask her, she leaves three days in advance, drives through hell and back one way, and it's all uphill. :iroll:
Yeah we had the sweet little 12-14 hour Rain Base on this snow dump HaMeR...it sucked literally.
glad you made it Jimbo  i had a close one several years back, i was on the interstate going probable 40 mph and i was behind a 18 wheeler and i thought I'm gonna pass him, well i got beside him and all of a sudden i start fishtailing and then I'm sideways looking right under this rig, i steer the other way and then i was facing the other way and i shoot down the medium as the snow was shooting up and i see a couple markers flying by me and finally got it slowed down and easered back on the road. then i had to go home and change my skivies
Driving in snow never bothered me much. The ice just adds an added dimension. :laf: Your truck 4 wheel drive? Locking rear axle? That helps a bunch.
Glad your all OK Jimbo......... We were supposed to get hit........ But we hardly got any snow...... Just a lot of rain, then cold, and wind.......
That kind of trip is no fun at all. Glad you made it safely. Is it spring yet?
No four wheel on this one Semp, and the rear is just a limited slip. But on black ice I dont think anything would have mattered.
Glad I don't have that down here, its cold outside but no snow, man that is really something to see your rear end coming back at you, glad you made it home safely. cc
Sounds like you need a nice glass of port.
Jerry
Them type of roads can be so hair raising I'm surprised someone hasn't marketed the idea for hair growth . Glad you made there with your precious cargo and am just as happy you got back ;yes;.
Like everyone said... glad you made it safe and are back home now.
Sounds like a double 6 pack day.
