Title: Nice male 12-18-10
Post by: possumal on December 18, 2010, 10:05:23 PM
I hope you guys and gals enjoy a series of pictures of an extra nice 35 lb. male I got today while hunting with my nephew and hunting pal of 19 years, Danny Sipe.  We made an extra good setup that resulted in this male making a fatal mistake, stopping to look at my Yote Coyote decoy about a 100 yds from where he entered the field, and cocking his leg to pee and show that intruder who was boss of that area. First picture is the view from behind my Savage Predator 243, and you can see the coyote laying there about 120 yds from my perch.  The second photo is from the same angle but zoomed to the max. The other two photos show my setup with the decoy, tripod, and the Foxpro Firestorm.  Real pretty male that no doubt was two years old this past spring and just now looking for a mate.  I plan on making a rug out of him as he has such a pretty coat.  We saw 7 more on the last stand of the day but too far away to get them to change course, but not too far to stop and give us holy hell before heading on to their night's hunting. It was a hoot for sure.

Al'scalls Al, in reply to your query "Where in the world did ya find that possum!? ", he has been in the Prather Possum clan for about two hundred years as best I can tell.  His actual name was Sir Ferdinand Percy Possum, III, and he was mounted by noted taxidermist "I'llstuffyouquick" of Macon, Ga. and passed down from generation to generation, ending up by accident in Possumal's greedy paws.  Coyotes like him to eat, but hate seeing him hanging from Yote Coyote's mouth.  :laf: :eyebrownod:

That's what I am trying to do with him.  He is one of those coyotes that would mature to 45 to 50+ pounds if he could have stuck around until 4 or 5 years old.  They spread at the shoulders and just get to the peak of their muscle tone by then.  All of the coyotes over 45 lbs. I have killed over the years, and especially the ones over 50 lbs, have been longer coupled and fully spread out, boss dogs for sure.  I target those animals as well as I know how, and believe that is why I don't kill as many pups of the year as I could hunting with different tactics. Thanks for your kind comments.

Uh oh.  :doh2:

Here in Tennessee we have to wear orange during big game season and we also can't use centerfire if it's archery or muzzleloader. We can use rimfire or shotgun with #4 birdshot or less.
A guy can get in a lot of trouble for it and pictures are very incriminating.  :innocentwhistle:

Semp and all those concerned about hunter orange.   I had it on going to stand, while on stand, but not when the pictures were taken.  I don't think that is against any law, hunting or otherwise.  :laf: :eyebrownod:  On top of those facts, the farm I was hunting on is locked gates and the owner and I have the only keys, and there was no deer hunting going on within five miles of his farm, as there are too many houses in that area.  The people have a little boy about 6 years old and a daughter who is about 4 years old, and they had witnessed a pair of coyotes killing a fawn deer about 100 yds from the back of their house, from their second story bedroom window.  The little girl nearly had to be sedated from the trauma she felt watching Bambi killed by the big bad wolf.  All this led to this man and woman getting in touch with Possumal, the dragon slayer, so to speak.  They had to lock up their two doberman dogs for me to hunt at all.  Race horse farm on one border, with no shooting in that direction or near to that fence.  Another $600,000+ house to the opposite side of their home about 1/4 mile down the road so no shooting in that direction, and of course, no shooting towards the owner's house.  Crunchy ice over snow to make the sneaky part harder than normal, but I figured out a way with a little Possumade, a cousin to Gatorade, and drew him into a particular spot and did the dirty deed.  Now to figure out how to get his two or three buddies who live there too, probably under his neighbor's barn.

You said what I would have said if I were in the same position.   :eyebrownod:

At the distances you shoot coyotes, they don't have a chance to see the orange any how.   :nono:

Semp, I can't wear that cursed orange too much, you know.  It makes me break out in a real bad rash.  You understand I know, with me bleeding blue and the "Big Orange" just across the border not too far from you.      Now don't you Tennessee boys get your scivvies in a tangled knot, as I am just poking a little fun your way.  Coach Cal's kids will poke their brand of fun into the boys in orange a little later on in the year.  :laf: I hope, I hope, I hope.  :hahaha:
