Title: I was asked once
Post by: Bills Custom Calls on December 19, 2010, 06:01:49 PM
Where do I find this crazy looking walnut that I come up with
Well before I bought a lathe I never really looked at the chunks of fire wood that went in the stove
Here is a good example of what could of been some heat and then ashes

I think that in the future we will be glad that you didn't burn it.

I burn wood here and bought 18 cord over the summer and I don't think I ever seen a piece of black walnut in the mix. I'm glad you're saving it out now.

I just about cried every time someone[Kurtis] threw another log on the fire at the LBL :pout:.  I've burnt wood off and on my whole life and never saw a piece of Walnut here .

Well Barry, if it's any consolation hte wood they were burning last year was mostly poplar. A very common wood used mostly for painted trim work. Nothing fine or fancy about it unless you use it to make dough bowls.

If walnut makes it into my fire , it is chunks that have no heartwood in them. Although I have some wood here rescued from a friends firewood stack. Jimmie
