Yesterday at the bait pile there was a coyote in my cross hairs at about 70 yards, I squeezed the trigger expecting the usual satisfying bang and thud on the shoulder... but instead I got the oh so annoying click. After that dad and I decided to take the bolt apart.
The culprit.

We decided that the quickest and easiest way could be to use a string.

You have to pull back on the spring loader and twist the body off to reveal the inside.

When we opened it up we found out that it had rusted up so the firing pin wouldn't hit hard enough to make it go bang. So we cleaned it up and got rid of the rust, put it back together and waited till tomorrow morning.
The tools.

This morning I went to the stand and seen a coyote right away on the bait pile. I put the cross hairs right on it's chest and squeezed the trigger. It dropped right away!!! This morning we had a couple of relatives from Houston Texas visiting their grandpa and they wanted to come to the farm to help out with the chores. So after chores they decided to come and get the coyote with me.

This is what we seen when we got there.
The relatives.

On the way back I think they turned into walking popsicle's, I guess they aren't used to -10*F weather.

Neither is that dead coyote. He is STIFF. If possible, could you cut the legs off and send them to Al? He needs some for his decoy.
Jerry
P.S. Glad that you got your bolt working. There is a tool that works really great for taking it apart and since you will be out again in the wet it will save you some time and effort.

While many will criticize hunting over a bait pile, I'm hear to tell you I wish I had one to hunt over. :yoyo:
Is this the rifle you won here?
Mr.Latta, my Dad said I should learn how to use the tools that I'll have when hunting just in case I have to take it apart in the field, but thanks for the link.
Jim, Yes it is, it is the only gun that I use for coyotes and animals larger.

Ain't nothing wrong with hunting over a bait pile either. A dead coyote is a dead coyote no matter how he got that way. :laf:
