Title: Do you agree
Post by: Bills Custom Calls on December 30, 2010, 05:08:55 PM
Would something like this really fix the economy

There recently was an article in the St. Petersburg , Fl. Times. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on: "How Would You Fix the Economy?" I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.
You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan":

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new AMERICAN Car. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes...

Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto!

I got this sent to me in an email

I think it sounds sweeeeeeeet, but I doubt it would work like he thinks.
Without these big companies staying afloat,  trillions of Americans would be without work.

If they would have divided the trillions of dollars they spent on the bailouts and stimulus between TAXPAYING Americans, those companies could have gone bankrupt and we would still have come out of this recession.  :doh2: :doh2: :doh2:

Ah dunno  .....without any of the big corps running what are we going to spend our trillions on to stay out of the recession or survive.
Indirectly.... I feel it boils down to those guys staying afloat.

1. We all know people that come into money only to be dead broke in a year. Nothing would change.
2. An American car....what's that? Oh, the cars that were at one time American that are now made in Mexico but "assembled" in USA.
3. All members of Congress need to pay taxes or go to jail! Or live with Bop until he's done with em.

GO VOLS! i
If ya win this one you're above .500.

The problem I see is that as soon as everybody knows we,, the over 50 crowd,, have a cool million to spend on vehicles our insurances are going to increase because "we can afford to pay more".  Gas will go up for everybody because 40 million people "can afford to pay $6/gal". That new truck I was giving the evil eyeball to will increase by $6-$10,000 because "I can afford to pay the higher prices".  Now you have everybody paying more because "40 million people have $1,000,000 & can afford to pay more".  So blame it on all us old farts. We aint gonna live much longer to dispute it anyhow.  :laf: :laf:

Might be nice for a while tho.

There are 2 things that I agree with in this and that is

Members of congress should pay their taxes

Congress should have retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto!

Fact is....... We need to be competitive on a global level........ or we are doomed....to find a new way to survive.
