I am looking to get away from my home made e-caller and start using mouth calls. Can anyone provide some insight on some decent commercially produced calls and any tips for the beginner?
I' sure there are many video's and CD's about calling but I used the 4H motto to learn myself. Just about any call will work so it's more of a personal thing in my humble opinion.
clubmkred, check out some of these topics also.

Fins,
I was looking for those topics. They used to be on the top of the page, but since disappeared. Where did they go?
Someone stole them.
I think I got a pretty good idea who done it though. :wo:
Actually the little forum add-on that I used to place that stuff into the forums hasnt been made compatible with this new forum software yet.
 Could you make a Child Board under the Predator Forum & drop em in?? No need for a Forum where posts or replies could be made. Just add that in there for now or forever.
or make a post that has the links to the topics and sticky it at the top of the predator forum?
Yeah either of those is possible.
Semp I believe was asking about them a while back. He actually noticed the appearance was different and put it all together.
I havent figured out the best method yet without garbaging the place all up. I was hoping all the addons would have been brought up to par by now.

Me too :innocentwhistle:, especially the chat :readthis:.
Well, I guess my question should have been geared more towards "how do you practice and how do you know you have the right sounds?" I have some basic mouth calls but have no idea if what I am blowing is sounding what it is supposed to sound like. Does the accuracy of the sound really matter?
Absolutely not. It's been documented and videoed in several instances where the caller actually played nursery rhymes with a distress call and called in coyotes.
I'm serious.
Learning to control the back pressure and putting a lot of feeling into your calling is far more important than sounding just like a rabbit, for example. Most newbies have trouble learning to force the air up from their diaphragm as opposed to blowing through the call. As to your question about commercially made calls, I'd vote for Sceery there, but you are way better off getting calls made by custom call makers to begin with.
.........and the presorted topics have been placed back at the top of the page.
Edited to take that back. I tried hacking it and it's just creating a small unnecessary disaster :doh2:
The best way to learn is to find an experienced caller and have them mentor you. That is true of coyote hunting in general as well!! Sure speeds up the learning curve!!

+1, that's a great way to go. Also, if you look around on the 'net, there are a couple of vendors who sell CDs of actual animal distress cries - it can be very useful to listen to some actual recordings of distressed animals, if you want to get an idea of what sounds authentic. Although, after calling in coyotes with "Lucky Bird" on the foxpro, I have to wonder just how discerning some of these predators really are :-)
I'm curious, but what does "Lucky bird" sound like?
Lucky Bird sounds like a bird on steroids. Or if you clamped a visegrips on both feet of a woodpecker and hung it in a tree.
Look at how to use and open reed call:
