Title: Went hunting for wood!!

Went out on a beautiful day before the rain hits again......

Got a couple of Black walnut logs in this pile I need to get out when things dry up a bit......too big for today... need the tractor for those....the rest is Oak.....

Found an interesting growth on this oak though......

Some sycamore poles for spoon making..... and some dogwood saplings for cane making.....

On the drive out the neighbor gave me some cherry slabs and some other stuff and said he would save me some burls from the saw mill he has...

I left this maple burl...... I got enough for now....

But there was more work to do..... found a cedar limb on the ground....... Had to get to sawing and sealing this stuff..... My back is killing me....and I had help..... so I need a break.....

  Thanks for the trip Al.  I can only dream of wood like that.  Have you ever tied saplings over to make the curl for a cane?

I have some out there right now as a matter of fact Barry..... I tied some up today!!!  Too muddy to carry the camera up there yet though..... But I will see what I can do later.... :wink:
The ones I cut today will be steam bent....

In the first pic way out yonder down in the valley I think I see 2 coyotes and a bobcat watching you  :laf: :laf:

That cedar sure has some nice red in it

We saw one coyote today!!  This is where I wanted to take you hunting......  :biggrin:

I dont know why?  They work fine for me...... (Photobucket)  and I am on dial up so I make em small file size so they load better.....

I tell ya...... if it werent for my friends helping this year I wouldnt have been able to get the wood in this year by myself....... Thanks fellas!!  you know who ya are..... :wink:
Off to buy blades for the band saw and the mill...... (OUCH! $$)  :madd:

  My spoon would look good with one of them bowls :wink:.  Funny the wife won't use the spoon[afraid of hurting it] and Donny only wants to use it :laf: :laf:.  had a lot of pancakes made with that piece of wood.  :yoyo:

There is always more spoons........ But no two like this that are the same..... :nono:
My wife likes the sycamore spoons the best..... and the maple ladel I made her..... I dont think I ever showed that one..... :confused: I should take a pic of it....  :laf:

Here it is....... we been using it so it dont look as good as it once did..... but it works well.....  :eyebrow:
Made it from a Y in a limb of Maple.....

Got it waxed and sealed...... ready for the loong wait for it to dry....  My back only let me do a couple of em today..... maybe tomorrow will be better.......
