A slow start with our cold water temps, but I managed to get out and find a few smallies this weekend....very few :laf:

How stupid do you think you'd look to others, while trying to take a picture of yourself holding a fish? :alscalls:
Well, here's how... :laf:
I just realized you can see my arm out, holding the camera in my glasses :laf:
That's not a bad start Jim considering the high water and cold temps. :congrats: :yoyo:
Well, went out for the first time today too.
Ya did better then we did, 1 Crappie here.
Good looking fish. Looks like the weather was perfect - the water's just like a mirror.
Man those are pretty fish! I think the pics are great. Makes me want to go fishing.
:innocentwhistle: Still a good photo, Jim, even with the reflection!
Got home from work tonight, power was out and no water. :doh2:
Well ya cant just set here, when there's fish to catch. :nono:
First cast pulled this 15 incher and I thought I was going to have a heck of a evening.
It was a good 30 minutes later, before I pulled this sneak out of the rocks, but he wasn't legal.
This freek of a bird came whizzing in and I'm telling you I never seen such bright red on a bird. His whole head was electrifying, and then he had a little more red out on his wings, everything else black.
When he flew at me, right before landing in this tree it actually freeked me out. I couldnt tell what the heck it was with those wild colors.
The pic sucks and I tried looking it up to identify it, but :doh2:  How the heck to you look up something you seen? :alscalls:
Anyway...it was a nice little break.
Nice bass but that is an amazing bird. Never saw anything like it, not even in National Geographic!
Added: Maybe it's a sockeye bird ready to spawn? :alscalls: (Sockeye, or red salmon, turn bright red when they spawn).
Nice fish.
Here's a little search I done for ya Jim. I gotta do something to pass the time around here. :alscalls: :alscalls:
http://www.whatbird.com/browse/objs/All/birds_na_147/110/Color/2066/Red
I got that site in my bookmarks too Glen. Awesome site.
I cant figure out how they got it to categorize and search by all those variables. Geek stuff, I tell ya. :laf:
I looked last night a little on there and the closest I could come up with was the Scarlet Tanager...but it still didn't look just right.

I never thought of that Okanagan, cause I've been known to do that also. :laf:
some sweet fish jim....we keep getting hammered with rain...
last year i started making my own lures...a buddy told me to use wood parts and colored crystal beads...from wallyworld than the ceramic barrel...or whatever is on bought lures...they worked well i lost very few lures and they stayed up off the bottom and the fish hit them...i also had fun makeing them...the parts are very inexpensive.
Last night I lost one that felt like a log :doh2: So I had to go back this morning for a couple hours.
He got off again....or it was his brother this time. :argh:
But I managed to coral a few of his sisters.

Nice ones Jim. :yoyo: Is the water getting back to normal, or still flooding?
Fish fry tonight at the Bosses house!!
It's getting closer to normal Ed. These were caught on the Wisconsin River which is high but not in flood stage, and running around 56 degrees right now.
The Mississippi is still flooding some areas up here, going down each day. Not really enough to let me to my honey holes yet though.
:yoyo: Whackin & stackin!
I havent been doing real good lately
The water was flooded for months longer then it ever has been. Which caused me to miss the spawn since I couldnt get to none of my holes.
Now it's finally going down but it's dropping at such a rate that you have to run towards the water to make a cast or by the time the lure lands, it's in the dirt. :laf: :doh2:
I slipped out today to break the monotony, but it was nothing to brag about other then just being out there

Jim,
Great pics and I must say, that is one kickin Stache!
SCCH
That just sounds creepy coming from a guy :nono:
That's one big ass snake. Looks like he bit off more than he could chew, though. White spinner bait tipped with a Louisville Slugger?
LOL...actually it was a walnut limb with all the bark off it, that my daughter used for moving under brush while mushroom hunting. She left it in the back of my truck.
So ...yeah Louisville Slugger, but a customized version. :laf:
The beavers are starting to close of one of my honey holes with a dam. It's normally only real productive during the spawn up here which is long gone now.
But since the construction of the beaver dam, it made a nice little place for the bass to hang out during the heat of the summer.
I bet I pulled 20 bass of this thing this morning. I finally stopped taking pics of them. They werent very big, but it sure was fun.
The weather was screamin "get in the basement" all morning. Low wall like clouds, black skies, thunder, off and on high winds, sporadic rain, but you know what that stuff does to fish and these guys didnt let me down, and they didnt care what I threw at em.

Chris mentioned something about going to the lake yesterday but by the time she got back from grocery shopping I was involved in other projects and she had already changed her mind about going and we are having thunder storms this morning so we won't be going today
Atleast you didn't get skunked this time
Thats true.....or bring home Poison Ivy :innocentwhistle:

Pat
Your fishing partner is the best pic of the whole thread. You have a beautiful daughter, Jim.
So how are the boy friends working out with 'ol dad? Taken any of them drowning fishing yet? :laf:
Not yet Semp. But I'm pretty proud of her. So far she has shown her priors the door for trying to rush things along. :sneer:

Found some stripers yesterday hunkering around a wingdam. I think I caught close to a dozen of these things on a crankbait before I decided I might as well grab a bucket from the truck and take a few home. :sneer:
I should known, once I did that the bite would be off. :doh2: Caught three more after that and they were getting smaller and smaller. Feisty buggers though. You'd think you had a 4 pound largemouth on the way they fight.
This guy must have seen all the action going on and moved in to get a piece of it. Which put him in the wrong place at the right time, right on the end of my line  I woulda liked about a half a dozen more of thrse :eyebrownod:
The girls did a lot of whining about how hot it was, pulling their clothes off, pulling their clothes up, and amidst all that managed to catch a few largemouth around that dock but wouldnt let me take their pics. They said their hair was ugly :iroll:
I wish I woulda thought of that before I had mine taken. :doh2:
Its good times spending the great outdoors with kids thats for darn sure. Good job Dad/Bass Magnet/Snake Killa.

I am missing most of your hair in these two pictures anyway, so it looks fine. Actually a pretty nice FLAT top.

:laf: :laf: yeah I'm gonna go with something like...umm..I told them to leave my hair out cause it was ugly or something :alscalls:
I though that it was something like that! :iroll:
Jerry
Found some more yesterday afternoon.
The cold weather is just barely starting to set in up here, so judging by the size of these bass (which arent very big) there should be one good hoorah yet as these things realize "hey man winters coming lets fill out guts" :eyebrow:
