Ok guys. I would like some honest comments on these two calls I spun up last night. NO HOLDS BARED. Just plain honesty. Would you yourself buiy a set of call like these?

With the number of call makers increasing like it is, and the competition to wow the buyer on the rise...I'll say no.
I can imagine they'd kill any coyote just as easily as $125 call.........but the Pizazz is missing.
I spun a call ONCE...I know a little of what you guys go through...and your still doing a good job Bryan, for what it's worth :wink:
I do not like to give my opinions on others calls. I feel that just because I do not like something doesn't mean that no one else will. You asked so I will say how I feel.
I would not buy them for a couple reasons.
The first being that I make calls. :laf:
The tone board in the open reed looks out of proportion to the body. It looks good where they meet, but the tone board looks to be the same length as the call body.
The only other thing I see is the lines, I don't know if its the picture or not, but the lines look fuzzy (for lack of better word).
Bryan, I agree with AW. I do not to give my opinions on others calls either. Some people take it the wrong way. Since you asked for honesty, I will answer. The toneboard is out of proportion for MY liking. If you were to eliminate the white collar where it meets the barrel and fit the toneboard that much closer to the barrel, It looks like you would be much closer to proportions. I will add a couple of things though. As long as the sound and construction is of good quality, then let yourself be the judge to whether or not you would buy the call. If you like it, I wouldn't worry about it. You build calls to satisfy yourself and show Your artistic abilities. If you are concerned whether or not someone would buy the calls, then you have already answered your own question. A little cost effective advice, I would practice on some dowel rods. Instead of building complete calls. Turn out as many different designs as you can until you are satisfied with one. Sometimes just a small change to a previous design makes a big difference in the overall look of the call. Believe me you will change your style many times throughout your callmaking career. If you have all of these examples in front of you to play off of, it makes it much easier to come up with something that just stands out to you. Keep turning them until your are happy. I really appreciate your comments as I take them all as a positive thought. This will be causing me to make some changes in the style and way I will do things in the future. In other words I will be taking it up a notch or two. I made this post in part as I wanted to see how many members respond and what they really thought. Can't hurt my feelings none unless you talk bout the wife or my dogs. Other than that feel free to always say what you will to me. To the members who made comments I thank you so much.

Bryan, I know where you're comming from because we were together with our thoughts on that last thread. Like me, your working on your style and it's helpfull to learn what others like and dislike. I'll give you my critique the way I would like to receive one.
What I don't like:
The closed reed has a pudgy look and I don't like that shape of mouth piece. That size might make a good coaxer call, but I like a little more barrel on a working call.
Personally, I don't like white tone boards . .at least on a blond wood. Doesn't quite go well. And others a have commented on how it is out of proportion. I'd say it stands too tall.
What I do like:
I like the two burn lines on the short call as opposed to the four on the open reed.
I do like the shape of the open reed and I like the way you've worked the inside of the bells on both calls.
I like the transition of the tone board to the call body. You have something there,, it just needs work on the proportions.
Whew! That was hard to do. :sad: I can see where some guy's might not want honest critique. I also can understand why others might feel uncomfortable giving it.
What would be cool would be a place where we could get our calls rated by an anonymous poll. That would take the pressure off the viewer and allow honest evaluation. Maybe. I sure there would be problems with that as well. Anyway, kudoo's to you for stepping up and asking for it.

I like em. the toneboard does seem to be a little long.
I don't like the extra shoulder on the tone board . The closed reed is a little too stubby, and I don't like seeing the metal of the reed. I like the shape and flare of the bell. The band/shoulder on the calls is nice, maybe cut the toneboard down and recess it a little.

I don't like the extra step on the tone board and they both need lanyard grooves.
I do like the general shape of the open reed, maybe a lanyard groove where the 4 burn lines are.
I think the enclosed is a little to stubby and it may need a little more of a lanyard grove.
I love the lines on the open reed. But the tobe board is a little to much. The lanyard grove might need a little more to it as well.
They are both great looking calls. I like the burns on the light wood. You might have burned to much on the open reed.
