Had a friend of mine from another Forum refinish 250Savage's stock for his M70 7x57mm Mauser.

In addition to stripping and refinishing the stock, he removed the ugly schnabel forend and added a classy ebony forend.
He recut all the checkering to point up the diamonds since they are generally pretty flat on M70 stocks. He then darkened it up a smidge to really set it off against the beautiful wood.
He also installed a Talley cross-bolt.

Not sure why some rifle manufacturers produce stocks with a "black-dot" to simulate a cross-bolt.
When he went to install the Talley cross-bolt, he found there was a "crossbolt" that had to be removed. It was a woodscrew and the plug was plastic.
It would not come out with any type of screwdriver. Had to drill around it with a .000001 drill bit and snap off the damn screw!
Should have the stock in hand sometime this week. Will drop the 7x57mm Mauser barreled action in and take a few pictures.
He did an excellent job on the stock. It looked good before, but it sure looks better now.

That's some good wood ya got FO. I like the end cap that was added.
Looks good ! :congrats:
That is a beautiful piece of wood FOs. :congrats: :congrats: So the fake crossbolt is just a black plastic dot on only one side?

At first glance it would appear so! However, at least on this particular stock, once he went to drill a hole to install a real cross-bolt, it was found to have a wooden screw encased in a plastic cap under the black dot.
Very nice. I agree with Hawk~..it looked good before but Wow! :congrats:
That's a sweet looking chunk of walnut! He'll have a real nice outfit just in time for the up coming deer season.
