Title: Unbelievable...
Post by: FinsnFur on August 22, 2011, 09:10:56 PM
Those of you that fish for bass and have fallen prey to the latest fad of rubber frogs know how well they work in the heat of the summer. :eyebrow:
When fished right, bass cannot resist these things, and the explosiveness is such an incredible rush.

This afternoon after work, the girls and I raced down to the river to whip some lures quick before supper. Our first stop was completely choked off with the little floating moss that bass like to hide under.
I tied on my favorite rubber frog, gave her a whip and let her set for what seemed like for ever.  I started to twitch it a little and I could see something in the water making a small wake towards it, so I sat right there.
He stops too.
I start twitching it ahead again and he instantly leaps his best leap through the muck but misses the frog.
I'm getting stoked, and I crank it up and start over with another cast making sure it crosses his path again.
Same story, he comes after it and misses it. Over and over and over. :doh2:
We did the 5 or 6 times and FINALLY he nails it!

 But he's just setting there. :wo:
Comin you stupid thing run so I can set the hook.

The girls are laughing their asses off.
I yelled,  what the hell is it? to them as they were a ways away but were closer to the lure.

It's a frog! Katie yells.
I said no shit, you watched me tie it to my line, but whats after it there? What just grabbed it and is setting there?
She's yells back, I said it's a frog!
:doh2:
I pulled out my camera, zoomed in as far as I could and said, you gotta be chittin me :doh2:

She was not kidding, there was a frog setting on top of my frog trying to copulate with it. :holdon:
I have never in my life seen a frog do this to an artificial bait. If any would have told me about it, I would said your full of crap.
The pic is a little grainy but like I said, I had to zoom way past the optical into the digital zoom to get him.

Here's the what the frog lure looked like. All you can see in the above pic is it's eyes and nose.

Anyone ever have this happen before.
I feel traumatized! :sad3: :sick2:

While I am not sure, I think that "top" frog needs some help.  Maybe glasses, new sense of smell, or he is just into latex.   :roll eye:

Jim, I believe they would, especially if you'd sign off and let them use it in a froggie porn film.  :alscalls: :alscalls:

On a more serious note, I talked my wife into going on a late afternoon bassin' excursion on a nice little state lake near Falmouth, Ky..  She knew we'd be out there after dark and she had every kind of reason in her mind to not be there.  I was working a similar bait other than the color through some stickups and light moss/algae.  There was a tremendous boil on that froggie, and being a younger, quicker possum back then, I set the hook.  Problem is I hooked a big water snake about 5 feet long and had to gig him right behind the head so I could control him and do my version of the guillotine trick.  Needless to say, that fishing trip was over before it got started good.   Hard to believe now, but that was about 48 years ago.
