Mid 80's aboard the USS Nassau, LHA-4, The Gator Navy :yoyo:
Thats a cool Pic. I like it :yoyo:
I salute you sir.
Been digging through some old pix, brought on by one of my old military buddies called my Momma looking for me and we had a good chat, weird with the internet I have connected with alot of my old service buddies, but still remember them in my mind as how they looked when we were all young bucks, anyone experienced this? Our unit symbol was a golden alligator with scuba gear and bandoliers and a M60 and a rocker motto of Prima Ab Mare " First From the Sea".
My ears were ringing :whew:
nasty;
I hope you don't mind but you really had my curiosity peaked with this topic. So I entered your above post into the Google search & came up with this page. I would like to share it with you & everybody else. I'll delete it this afternoon if you don't want it in here.

Not at all, I love that ship and am sad she was decommissioned, we used to call her The Big Nasty ! I crossed the Arctic Circle and the Equator on that boat,roasted in Lebanon and froze in Norway on her. This was my 1st ship,

One thing the Wikipedia doesn't, say is the Canopus used to load the submarines with ICBM nuclear missiles, big mothers, used to use cranes to lift em out of the ships silos then lower them into the submarines missile silos, TIGHT SECURITY then, all the nuclear weapons spaces on board had bright red painted doors and said " nuclear weapons space,do not enter,deadly force is authorized".
There's a large picture of both displayed at my home. I come from generations of Navy men in my family except for my youngest brother who was an Army man, we make him sit in the cellar at family dinners :biggrin: :wink:
