Title: Oak burl
Post by: Yotehntr on October 16, 2011, 11:04:39 PM
Thought I'd post a couple pics of this call up... got this wood from bacon nut... sent it off to have stabilized and turned a call from it... the pics don't do the wood grain justice, it's some very pretty stuff.  Thought Bill might like to see what I did with it.  It's an Oak Burl barrel with an Elk antler bead, followed with one of my o-ring fitted stabilized antler toneboards... Ca finish inside and out.

Guess I'm a bit goofy but I sort through toneboards I have made up to try to match 'em up... I thought the black spots in each and the bit of yellowing in the toneboard matched up pretty well.  You can see the black spots in the rotating pic (right profile)

After all was finished:

I agree, the oak burls never look like I would expect 'em to.  Cool stuff for sure!
