Title: Xmas Turkey...
Post by: nastygunz on December 27, 2011, 01:52:24 PM
...call that is...A fellow working on my sisters house in PA mentioned he made custom calls, she mentioned her favorite brother(me) is a legendary turkey hunter, and presto, my lil niece picked out the piece of walnut and I got a great sounding slate turkey call for Xmas!

I have never been a slate fan but this one sounds awesome, very crisp and clear, has great tones all over the surface, I am impressed ..I have alotttt of calls but no slate cuz every time I buy one if I don't like it i give it away, but this ones got a new home.

I've found that you can make a slate call that you don't like sound like one you will like just by switching out strikers.

I use all kinds of weird stuff just to see what happens, sometimes they sound purty goot !..how about a double ender ...one striker with a tip on each end..then you could get 2 sounds from one striker :highclap:.BRILLIANT :yoyo:...or...1 striker with multiple tips you could insert, like with some screw drivers  :eyebrow:..speaking of a double ender..traditionally like the strikers in the pic above, they all have handles, but you don't actually use the handle for anything really?...its begging to be made into a double striker..or a handle that is removable and put it on the striker tip your not using...ITS JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER  :bowingsmilie:

I just think stuff up. as far as woodworking all I do is whittle with me pocket knife haha ...I been turkey hunting over 20 years and got a lot of gear but in my travels I have never seen a 2 headed striker or a striker with the double wood thing...you better pounce on this, " The Double HaMeR"... :eyebrow: :yoyo:

How about 4 strikers in one unit in an X pattern, like a tire iron? That would be cool as hedoublehockeysticks
