With the days getting a little longer, and the days a little warmer, I was able to get Spike out for some crappies after his b-ball practice. The pond is only 250 yards from my back door - my neighbors pond that sits right behind their house (an old farmhouse probably from the late 1700's/early 1800's). In the past I've thrown crappies from local lakes in there, but I'm sure that there was a crappie population that existed prior to my stocking efforts. Anyway, it's a small pond and I'll keep 8 to 10 crappies a few times in the spring for a meal.
Spike and I were banging them pretty good today, which was our first trip there this year.
In this first pic you can almost see the entire pond. Probably between a 1/4 to 1/2 and acre.

Here's a pic of the biggest crappie I've ever caught, and it was out of the tiniest of my crappie spots! I measured it at 15 inches, and then let her go. I thought for sure it was a lagremouth when I hooked it.

And one more for sizing purposes. I had Spike grab a little one out of the bucket that is 9" long.

We ended up catching about 30, and kept 8 in about 45 minutes - lots of fun. 29 of the 30 were 8 to 9 inches.
Very nice!! Cant think of a better way to spend a day :congrats:
That is one honking Crappie
We still got lotsa ice and the bluegills and crappies are going crazy with our warm weather too.
HOLEE SMOKES what a slab!! Glad you guys had a good time!! Thanks for sharing!!
Now that I got a visual reference, I know exactly where to go. :eyebrow:

Same chit, different day.
Dante and a friend headed over after school, and by the time I got there, they were doing alright.

Dante caught one that was 14-1/2" and just shy of a pound and a half.

I was able to revive it, and the bass Charlie caught, and let them go for another day. Then, just to kill time and be a good dad, I fished a little. This guy was just over 16." They were all only interested in minnows.

Ah man, my mouth is just watering. I can almost taste and smell it cooking, thanks to that last pic. (Insert Belly Rubbing Smilie) :alscalls:
