Have not seen the first one yet but I would say it wont be to much longer...Ramps are up good now!!
I haven't been out yet myself, but some friends have been finding them the last 2 weeks.
found a dozen last weekend while turkey scouting.one more good rain and they should be up good around here!
Our weather has really been jacked up this spring.
We had two weeks in March in the 70's which is unheard of, and a few people were finding some small grays.
Now were bouncing around in the 30's and 40's :shrug: :confused: :doh2:
Wish I knew more about this, and plan on looking for some later today while the kid fishes a kids-only trout pond. I'll be sure to post anythinig I find for positive ID before cookin em up.
My dad knew a guy that would bring a sampling of what he found to a street corner in Philly, give some out and tell them he'll be there the next day, same time, with some more. If the few guys showed up the next he figured they were ok to eat. That's old school though, and is frowned upon nowadays.
I really wish I enjoyed eating fungus...I'd like to go out and find some morels in the spring woods. Just another excuse to be out there.

We got a fish house here on the river that sells clams, and walleye, and cat fish jerky etc, etc...
They also buy and sell morels every year.
I had my daughter give them a call this past weekend and see what they was selling them for. This is always a tell tale sign as to how many are getting found.
They said they had two pounds all weekend and wanted $32.00/lb for them. :shock2:

I was hoping to get one more shot. I think the lilacs were blooming back in March around here when we had a week or so of 80 degree temps, which is unheard of.
We don't even start looking until June here. :eyebrow:
Thats about typical for here too Todd. Mothers day at the earliest has usually been the rule of thumb.
But like I said that week plus...of 80 degrees temps back in March triggered bass to spawn, trees to bud, mushrooms to grow...
Now I'm wondering if it's going to be over.

Yipper, we have Grays and Black Morels. We have some of thos eother high dollar fungas too, but I don't go looking for them.
Went out hunting this morning. Couldn't find a one. :shrug:

How much do they sell for up your way? No one around here sells them, but I saw some a couple of years back in Indiana for $15 a pound.

Last year I think they were selling for $20 a pound, if I remember right.
This year, like I mentioned earlier in the post they are selling them for $32 a pound. I'm guessing once they start really popping the price will come down but I dont know for sure.
I dont plan to buy any, not at either price :nono:
