Basshole, are you using the chat link at the bottom of the front page?

If you do, it should swing you right through.

Give me a few more details of what's taking place and we'll get you in.

Yeah, I'm using the link on the front page, and it says signing in with user name Basshole, and then it comes up and says ***angel Erroneous Nickname.

I wonder if it's doing that beacuase of the a-hole in your nick name. ...I almost snickered there. :sneer:

I have got the profanity filer shut off though, unless the IRC channel owner is doing it.

Let me do some looking into it.

That very well could be it, let me know what you find out.

Thanks

I'm not sure if this is the case or not, but it appears as though they do have a bot on the system that watches for obsene, or or harrasing amongst many other things.

I finds it hard to believe it could pick those letters out of your name though, the name appears normal, it just sounds ...well....bad. LOL

Are you running any kind of antivirus or internet security? And if so what kind?

Basshole, did you ever get this figured out? Haven't seen you in there and you never answered wether or not your running a firewall or have your browsers Java disabled.

All I get is a red x in a box. I assume that means I do not have java, correct? Jimmie

That could mean you don't have Java yes, or that you don't have it enabled.

If you don't have java you can get it here http://java.sun.com/getjava (http://java.sun.com/getjava.) free.

To see if you have it, or to see if it's enabled in Microsoft Internet Explorer all you have to do is click on The tools button on your toolbar, and click on Internet Options.

That will open a small window with your different options, and you'll want to click the "advanced" tab.

Scroll down the options that, that brings up and look to see if Java is in the list and if it has a check by it, indicating it's enabled. If not enable it and be sure to click apply when your done.

A box with "Float" written in it. My work computer went right to chat the first time. Can't get the home one to fly.

I'm glad you provided that photo Brad
Take a look at your Norton Internet Security, there's something in there preventing it from loading on your computor.
I'll go see if I can recall which setting it was.

I'm getting closer. I disabled Norton for 30 minutes and that got Java to atleast fire in the box rather that "Float".

The only problem now is I get "Loading Java Applet Failed..."

So there's still a glitch somewhere. I'll play with this a little more when I get time today.

When you were confirming that you had java enabled, which version did it say you had?

If it's a Microsoft Version, it's outdated and causes nothing but issues anyway. You can download a better up to date and more reliable version right from Sun java at http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)

Keep me updated we'll get ya in.

Just tried again, this time it came up saying logging in Basshole_Finsandfur, took me to the actual chat screen this time, then kicked me out again with the same message at the bottom of the login screen "***angel Erroneous Nickname"

Once you get in, try double clicking on your name in the list, which will bring up a registration window allowing you to register your nick name.
Remember it wants the same log in info you use for the forums, the two are integrated and that's how it keeps out guests.

It won't quite let me get that far, it just takes me to the chat screen says its logging me in and then kicks me out to the initial log in screen with that same error message.  It's got to have something to do with my name.

Post by: FinsnFur on August 18, 2006, 10:02:25 PM
It's the name :rolleye:
I just tried logging into it as you, and got kicked also.

I sent you an e-mail with your new password by the way. I had to change it to get to the chat as you.

Is there a way to change my user name?  I looked in the profile and didn't see a way, if there is let me know figure I'll just change it to Ba$$hole.

I have that option turned off to members to prevent a mass identity crisis :holdon:
But I can change it for you on this end if want to give that a try.

I wouldn't mind giving it a try if it's not to big of a hassle for you.

Well thanks for switching it, but chat apparently doesn't like that variation either.

We can keep changing it till we come up with something your content with and it lets you in.
Like I said, it's nothing to change your name.

One question though, when you went into chat with the new name did it recognize the new name or did it retain the Basshole profile?
Title: Re: Fins and Fur Chat
Post by: Basshole on August 19, 2006, 12:15:43 PM
It recognized the new name, let's try B@sshole, and if that doesn't work I guess I'll just have to think of something a little more bland.

Done.
My guess is that they have this bot set up to watch for any variation of the word, it may be tough to beat it or find one it missed.

Let me know how this one does.

Yeah, it caught this one as well.  I guess this will be my last attempt bholebaits, if it doesn't work I'll just go back to basshole and stay out of chat.
Title: Re: Fins and Fur Chat

Done.

I'm sure that one will go through.
I was gonna suggest BaHole, or BaccHole.

Let me know how it goes, or mayble I'll see ya in there.

How do you determine your nickname to get in the chat forum? Did I miss something? Probably!
Title: Re: Fins and Fur Chat
Post by: FinsnFur on August 25, 2006, 06:00:17 PM
Bob, your nick name on chat is the same as it is here on the forums.
All you have to do is be logged in, click the chat link, and it will know who you are and log you in as such.

You will be prompted for your password right before it logs you in. Your password is the same as the one you use to log into the forums.

Jim,
I got in the chat forum using the word copy?? Guess I used that as a password when I signed up?

I can't verify that Bob, because all passwords are encrypted and hidden. I can change someones password if they ever forget theirs, but I can't see the current one.

You must have used that word when you registered, because if you type in something else, it's set up to let you know you failed and it wont let you in.

But I would recommed changing your password now because you posted it on the public forums here. Anyone from anywhere can log in as you now that they have your password.

To change your password;
Click on the "profile" button near the top of this page.
Inside your profile, choose "account related setting" from the menu on the left.
Part way down your settings page there is two "choose password" options. One just confirms the other. Enter your new password in both fields and click "save"

I found my password and it lets me into the chat room also. So I have two passwords and both work to get me into the chat room?
