Post by: Lonehowl on August 27, 2012, 11:53:32 PM
Aint posted here in a long time: ) So heres a sound clip from one of my diaphragm calls I make nowdays. Stopped and harassed a couple coyotes in a field the other day and recorded myself on my eye-phone : ). Not all that great but it is what it is. This a little 2 reed pup howler:

That sounds great and your pretty dang good using em too. :eyebrownod:
I love that young howl.

I cant get past the tickling vibration when using diaphragm calls. I've tried and tried to overcome it, but I cant. My eyes start watering, my nose runs and I shake my head profusely making hacking noises, trying to shakes that pallet tickle. :laf:

Great sounding call!   I saw where you posted this on the PH site.  How is your predator diaphragm call different from your turkey call?

Also, I went to your site to buy one but couldn't get any of the links to work.   ???

Thanks Semp. Stretch(tension), latex mix, and how you stack the latex(spacing) makes a big difference. For a howling diaphragm there are no cuts in the latex, makes for a smooth howl, for distress calls, cuts are desirable for most guys so the call loosens up and you get different pitches, rasp and speed etc.
The general complaint is that turkey diaphragms dont hold up well to coyote calling, which for the most part is true, but if you build a call to thick and rugged, it loses life imo, and could be hard to operate for some. Ive decided to build several different models, from light to heavy, and keep the price minimal, so guys can pick up several and try em, and not break the bank. At least thats the plan anyways lol.

This little pup howler is a very lightweight mix, with a small sound, easy to blow. It may or may not hold up to the abuse some guys may give it, but for 5 bucks I think its reasonable.  I plan to build a little heavier version of it as well though.

My site has nothing on it, I sorta took the summer off to revamp my shop, which still isnt done, but Ill be getting things together here soon.

Id be glad to sell ya some if you want, just pm me and Ill get er goin'

Jim-- If you have any of those calls still laying around try trimming the yellow off a little but at a time. About 1/8" at a time. About 2 trims is all you can make on them at that cut. I found with turkey calls there was too much material around the outside edge like that.

lol, we have an inside cat nowdays, and he does NOT like me blowing these things in the house. I was doing some "meows" on a diaphragm call the other day and he came screaming around the corner staring at me with his huge dialated eyes like he was going to kill me : )
