Title: Yukon Men
Post by: KySongDog on September 23, 2012, 04:42:06 AM
Any one else been watching the Yukon Men on the Discovery Channel?   It is about men surviving in the rural Alaska town of Tanana.  Of all of the "reality" shows on TV, this is my new favorite.

It was a good show until they started talking about how the black bears are a real problem then started showing a bunch of snarling grizzly bear shots :doh2: It does have some interesting stuff though. I enjoy watching them on their trap lines and pulling $100 beaver out of the ice. I think I might have to start selling to that fur buyer...wow!

It's all about the ratings...

I started watching it when it first came out, but it seemed like so much of it was staged that I kinda lost interest.
Some of the stuff they say, I have to wonder how many times the production crew makes them say it so it sounds like they want it.

I'm sure some of it is staged.  However the last episode of George dying in the river was not.  Very sad.

Like someone said above ratings are important so they have to make the show interesting otherwise folks won't tune in.  I saw on Swamp People once where 'ol Troy and his buddy were struggling to haul this huge gator in to the boat.  When they finally wrestle it over the side of boat, you could see a tag already in its tail!   I'm pretty sure that gator fight was staged.   :laf:

 :laf: Yah... like that :eyebrownod:

But THAT particular alligator got away from them earlier in the season, remember? They thought it was dead, they tagged it and it woke up. :holdon:

So they tagged a live alligator which was playing possum but didn't flinch when they cut his tail for the tag which then jumped out of the boat and then they re-caught the gator when the camera guy happened to be there at that moment........... right on!   :yoyo:

I caught a couple reruns the other day. I gotta say that this isnt the show I was thinking of. The one I was seeing and said I quit watching, had different people in, and now I cant remember the name of it, but it was along the same lines.

It's all "reality" TV, which is not "reality".   Fine if you want to see the scenery, the animals, etc, but like all reality TV it iks scripted and staged, and I'd bet more than one take to get it right on film.   These kinds of shows don't portray the real world very well.   So no, I don't normally watch them, but then I don't watch the Boob Tube much either.   My real world is more than enough "entertainment".   :iroll:
