Shows how little the writer knows of wolf tactics. They would have needed to isolate or tire that dog out to kill it, matter fact they would have wasted the extra energy. The will wear out bigger game like buffalo, moose and maybe a few other critters in the "big" category, but small animals its a surround and feast tactic.

I have spoken on the phone to a couple of western bear hunters who are hesitant to take their hounds out anymore. Seems that the hounds baying "treed" is a real wolf magnet.

Never heard of that...but it makes sense. Once they learn whats going on when they hear dogs baying up, it's on.
