Title: The Best Christmas Present
Post by: Hawks Feather on January 03, 2013, 10:30:03 PM

As some of you know, last January my granddaughter Maddie’s cancer returned.  After many months in the hospital and all of the problems that go along with cancer treatment she received a bone marrow transplant.  The transplant had started to work when a dormant virus (similar to mono) became active and the two killed each other off.  Many times when a transplant fails the person does not make it.  In Maddie’s case something else happened - her original cells that had been killed off by chemo and radiation started to rebuild.  The best thing is that they were not cancerous white cells that were rebuilding but healthy white cells.  So, I celebrated with the best Christmas present a grandpa could have â€" his granddaughter.
