ran outta ammo with 2 dogs standing in the killing field. 1st dog went down, swung to 2nd dog running broadside and put him down. 1st dog started tryn to get up, shot her again then had 3 more running around the field.
I shot the 3rd dog on a dead run at 130yds, it did a complete forward roll and kept running for the tree line. I cycled the bolt and didn't feel another round chamber, partially opened the bolt to check and EMPTY...
As i'm digging through my backpack looking for ammo the 4th dog and another dog that came in escorted the first dog I shot (twice) out the field at a slow walk.
lesson: verify round count and always verify spare ammo
Had 1 dead dog in the field, 1 dog with 2 55gr hornadys in it and another that was possibly hit in the front leg.
I called my wife and asked her to bring my streamlight and the shotgun. I walked out to meet her and we began our tracking job in the dark. We found the spot where the 1st dog had been shot, blood and organ parts everywhere (big chunks) so we followed to the trail to a fence line with a creek. I decided to let them be and continue in the AM.
We went back this morning and picked up the trail, followed it for 400-450yards and found the 1st dog that had 2 rounds in it. No trail on the 3rd dog....will probably see that 1 again. 2nd dog below (male)

the spot where I shot the first dog, made a mess...

Holy Broknbonz Broknguts! :congrats: Sounds like you were under attack.
Nice job. I bet it sounded like a world war. lol
The ammo situation sucks but you had a heck of a day in spite of it all. :congrats: Thanks a ton for sharing it.
Wow! That does sound exciting!!
Jim
Congrats, :yoyo: Looks like you need a AR !!
Thanks fellas,
negative on the AR, I'm not a fan of them. But maybe a detachable mag for the 700 would be nice. It has an internal mag extension now and will hold 7 but I hardly ever load it to max cap.
Guess I will from now on...
Cant say negative and AR in the same sentence :readthis:
Bastied :argh:
You have not heard that nobody hunts with the evil ar,but i do not coyote hunt with out one.
lol, Doug. I knew that statement would bring you outta the shadows.
I'm not starting an AR debate. I love the rifles but I've humped 1 all the miles I could stand and I like the challenge of the bolt gun.
Besides the opportunity for multiple shots around my area is very rare and I can't miss fast enough... :alscalls:

Nope, just disgusted at the way a lot of Vets used to get looked down on.
