As the saying goes...."Freedom Isn't Free." The Syrian Rebels are fighting with whatever they can find to be free of the Assad dictatorship.

I'm not sure if the rebels are our enemy or not. Assad is for sure. The enemy of my enemy is my ..............
The Free Syrian Army: Origin
The Free Syrian Army traces its origin to early defectors from the Syrian army who refused to shoot unarmed protesters during the Syrian uprising.[36] The first defections occurred when the army was sent into Daraa to quell ongoing protests. There were reports that some units refused to shoot on protesters, and had split from the army.[37] Video footage showed civilians helping defecting soldiers who had been shot for refusing orders.[b/][38] Defections continued throughout the spring as the government used lethal force to clamp down on protesters and lay siege on protesting cities across the country such as Baniyas, Hama, Talkalakh, and Deir ez-Zor. Many soldiers who refused to open fire against civilians were summarily executed by the army.[39] In July 2011, seeing the need for action Riad al-Asaad and a group of officers announced the formation of the Free Syrian Army with the goal to protect unarmed protesters and to help overthrow the government.[12]

Pentagon backed plan for U.S. to arm Syrian rebels

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Pentagon leaders told Congress on Thursday that they had supported a recommendation to arm Syrian rebels promoted by the State Department and CIA but which President Barack Obama ultimately decided against.
Obama's government has limited its support to non-lethal aid for the rebels who, despite receiving weapons from countries like Qatar and Saudi Arabia, are poorly armed compared to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's army and loyalist militias.
