Title: Muzzle Brake
Post by: Orion on February 22, 2013, 07:27:00 PM
Muzzle Brake Call
While at the Mid-West Calling Championship in St Francis Ks I had a loyal customer ask if I could make an open reed call with holes on the sides for better control when cupping your hands over the call.  The calls below are the result.  He has his call and now is the chance for you to get yours.  Calls are 3 inched tall and are tuned with my ORION distress toneboard that produces an outstanding raspy rabbit in distress sounds. Calls are $22 dellivered TYD.

Will post a pic of more calls when I get it loaded.

Thanks-

That IS different.  I'm wondering how much it actually changes the sound...or the control of it.

Hey , that's a new thought!  Any other wood choices?

It changes the sound a lot. Kettle creek calls used to have a call called the backstabber. It had two closed reeds in it. One in each end. Foxpro purchased the rights to the line and now sells them under their name.

Same concept as the closed reed but more variations in the sounds with the open reed...............

nailbender -  I thought of you when I was getting ready to post this call for sale...  Made from a LamBeam that used to be under on end of my shopsmith lathe....that is a .223 shell next to the call.

Looks pretty good! I think I've got a few trim chunks of that laying around here too. You found a much better use for it! :hahaha:

Not a new idea.   Kettle Creek is not the only ones from the new wave call makers to make and market similar.   Similar was also produced commercially by another  before them, albeit as a bird call.   And I have personal knowledge of at least one call maker who played around with the concept decades ago and moved on. ;)

Sounds good. Everyone in the break room said it sounded annoying. Need video to see how much your working the call to get those sounds.

"need a video to see how much your working the call to get those sounds"  Sorry Slagmaker, Academy Awards were last Sunday and my movie production crew is taking some time off.

Anyone out there with an ORION call want to inform slagmaker how easy it is to blow an ORION Call?

Thanks,

Doug
