Title: Primos Jellyhead choke
Post by: Frogman on February 24, 2013, 01:08:30 PM
Hey guys,

I bought a Primos Jellyhead .660 choke for my 870 for $25.00 at a gun show yesterday and wondered if any of you have experience with this choke?  How will it do with 3 inch Ded coyote loads??

Right now I am using a Remington extra full turkey choke with the 3 in. Dead coyote loads.  I have tried them with the modified and full choke tubes, but I got the best groups with the extra full choke??  With it I wouldn't count on killing a coyote at much over 40 yards??  I was hoping this Jellyhead would help me reach out there further??  Sure don't want to blow up my gun?

The only way to know is to shoot the choke/shell combination and see how it patterns.

If you like 870's and really want to reach out there further, get a 870 Super Mag and shoot 3 1/2 inch shells.

Most of the time it's hit or miss with different choke tube's, All barrels are different so the results are usually different as well, Just because you are shooting a .660 choke doesnt always mean it will shoot a tighter pattern than a .670 restriction and so on just depends on the gun, as in my 870 Express Mag it shoots a better and tighter pattern with a .665 Hasting's Choke than my sons exact same set up with a .660 Hasting's, However both will roll a coyote up in a nice lil ball @ 50-55 yds using Winchester supreme No.4's in 3 1/2.

(Long winded way of saying try it and see )

Young Son tried the Ded Coyote in several configurations and to be honest I wasnt that impressed with it, Figured I would stay with my Turkey set up.

Is that #4 Bird shot, or rather #4 BUCK ?

In my experience, the Remington 870's shoot good patterns. With Hevi-shot "T's", or #4 Buck, I would think that a .675 tube would be a good choice. I really like the choke tubes from Kicks Industries even though they are a bit spendy. I use their Buck Kicker tube on my Beretta Extrema. It is the Buck Kicker X-full, which a .690 tube for my Beretta.
