Title: Bobcat
Post by: JohnP on March 26, 2013, 02:02:06 AM
One of the very few bobcats I took this past fall.  Took about two minutes of woodpecker distress to get him coming in as fast as any coyote ever did.  Didn't think I was going to get him to stop.  First one I ever had react like that.

Scott - What part of Texas will you be in?  Think you could fit in a little side trip over to Arizona, we got plenty of room at the house.

John,  nice cat.   You are a cat specialist looks like!

FWIW  I've had a few run up though most sneak.  One time in CA years ago I set up a friend on a 50 foot high high bank where he could overlook a wash.  I crawled under some overhanging brush at the bottom of his slope and hand called, lying back not expecting anything but to hear a shot from him.  In about 30 seconds a bobcat ran right up at full speed and skidded to a stop ten feet from me with nothing but flat sand floor between us.

I've watched some sneak in from waaay out there, slowly, and watched others run on approach and then stop and sneak on the final move to where they could see the source of the sound.

I got home from Phoenix last night late.  Didn't have my brain in gear or I'd have asked ahead of time how close you are to Phoenix.  I rented a car and had a bit of time though each of the three full days I was there was booked enough that I couldn't have ventured too far from the city.  Not a lot of lead time on this trip, mainly to attend a memorial service for a friend I'd worked with.  That's the third one this past year.   When a young friend told me recently that he was a groomsman in an upcoming wedding, I told him that at my age it has shifted from friends' weddings to friends' funerals...

Okanagan - We are about three to four hours from Phoenix, depending on traffic.  If you look at a AZ map in the far eastern corner just about on the border is the small town of Hereford, that be us.  I just as soon take a ass whipping than go to Phoenix or Tucson.  Like most big cities to much crime, to much corruption and way to liberal.

Well, that makes me feel better.  Too far to have managed it this trip.  I here ya on cities.  I live about an hour from Vancouver, Canada and haven't been into the city in the past year, and only drove through about twice in that time.

Airfare and lodging were a package for me, a Day's Inn near the airport.  There was a prison down the street and a convenience store that I stopped at had the barred door locked and would sell you stuff through a tiny slot window  (all I wanted was a Coke !!!)    There was also a Circle K convenience store a block from where I stayed. I stepped out to walk down there one evening, thought about it a moment and decided not to. The gal in our office would be mortified if she knew where she had booked me to stay!  I booked all my appointments so that I would not have to drive in any rush hour in a strange city.

A friend took me to an outstanding Mexican restaurant called Arribas on the north side of Camelback street about a third of a mile west of 24th.  it is hard to stand out in the Mexican food business, but this one did.

Got in late enough last night that I'm vegging this morning.

All the best!

Your cousin has had numerous invites to head out this way.  But Jim gave you a good alternative - LBL Hunt
