A couple weeks a noticed that the barrel on my fairly newly acquired Crosman 1322 22cal air pistol was rotating.
Typically...not a big deal for a non rifled barrel, you'd think. And since the thing is a tack driver over and over...they must be aware of it and knowingly it causes no accuracy issues.
I dunno
I have a laser on mine and since there is no metal breech, there is no place to mount a scope or a laser. Which means that special brackets are needed to clamp it to the barrel. And yea...now we notice that the barrel can be freely rotated from side to side. See whats happening here?
I find it very very hard to believe it was like that from the git go. One would HAVE to notice this when mounting the laser itself, wouldnt ya think? None the less, the gun still zeros, naturally I try to make sure the laser isnt setting sideways on the barrel as the result of the rotating barrel, when I do shoot it, and havent missed yet.
I can see it making NO DIFFERENCE on any gun without a barrel mounted scope or laser.
Me and Nastygunz discussed this a little bit in private message days before I actually discovered what I'm about to show ya's, but first I wanted to ask you nasty...is the scope you have on your 1377 barrel mounted? or does that have the metal breech?
In my eyes, and maybe I'm a little sideways, (no pun intended) (ok...that was fully intended)..if the barrel rotates and it has a barrel mounted laser or scope on it, the whole trajectory intersection is off.
Someone else decided the same thing :eyebrow: Look what I did find.

These replace the plastic barrel band on the business end of the guns, and they have a set screw inside which tightens to hold the barrel tube in place.

Hellllllllfire!..For quite a bit cheaper than that, you can use the steel breech which also has a set screw and Mount all kinds of optics on it. Those do look pretty cool but not for that price! I also think the barrel on tthe 1322 and 1377 is rifled. I have the barrel mount and laser on my 1322 like you do. I have the steel breach and red dot scope on my 1377 and they're both deadly.
The red dot scope works excellent in any kind of light conditions. The laser also works well except in a longer distance and in bright sunlight.

So you do have steel breeches on both? I wondered about that.
Yeah the laser is tough to see in the sun but when you can see it...it's literally a tack driver.
I thought $50 was cheap for the tricked out barrel band. Whats a steel breech cost? Which one is less destructive to install?
http://www.crosman.com/gear/custom/2240SBPK
the steel breech is around 35.00, gives you alot of options on what to mount, im gunna putt one on my 1322, very happy with the one on my 1377.
Hell install both Jimbo you got the loot
:nono: I aint got the loot.
Did you install your britches yourself? I mean your breeches :doh2:
Yassuh!..easy job and you can see it on youtube also!
What we really need for the crosmans is for Hamer to make us some some fancy grips n forearms ;)
:eyebrow: Yah!!!
Annnnd.....(enter Hamer)....;)
The arent cheaper then the barrel bands by the time you adding shipping. Holy crap those guys really tack it on. :holdon:

I hopped over to Pyramyd Air which is where I bought the gun and laser.
Not a whole lot cheaper but easier to justify. So I ordered one.
There was a note on the order form saying the breeches were SOLD OUT! I had to laugh, people stocking up on these too?
And apparently they are getting more in on the 19th of this month, which is when this one will ship. We'll see.
Most of the companies put the wood to you on shipping, the effers!!! :argh:...I'm sure you ll like the steel much betta :yoyo:
:jump:
Glad to see you using an Ohio company, but I may need to contact Pyramyd Air since it looks like the person that sent you your shipping notice might have some problems.
Jerry
Yeah he had too much coffee :laf:
I actually bought the pistol through Pyramyd Air. They have been great through the whole thing so far. Well actually it was Amazon, but via Pyramyd Air.
Is the report from a 1322 and/or 1377 any softer than your standard air rifle? Why I ask is that we have pigeons in the new neighborhood and they need to go. My air rifle is kinda loud. Also Amazon has them for 58 and 54 bucks - good price?
Yep, I bought mine for $54.95 if I remember right.
silence is golden

Boy...the shipping confirmation said this thing shipped 5 days ago on FedEx
Who'da thunk it would take this long to go 500 miles in a FedEx truck  :doh2:
Maybe the FedEx truck was hijacked, and you're steel breach is heading for Mexico for the drug cartel to use!
:laf: yah...and then I will rest easy knowing I have contributed to the death of another one of them :alscalls:
For backyard squirrels and pigeons what would you guys recommend, 17 or 22? Also does the breech kit fit both or must you order for the specific model?
Nasty owns both, he'll have the answer for that one.
Steel breech-itis!
Newly installed steel breech!

The dressed breech.

Now I get the joyful task of sighting that red dot back in. Which I am going to enjoy every minute of by the way.
What? No step-by-step narrative! Sigh. So do you like it?....JohnP, I have always heard people say .177 caliber for feathers .22 caliber for fur. The .22 is a lot heavier but I think slower and has a lower trajectory, the .177 is faster and better trajectory, I have taken squirrels pigeons etc. with both. I would go with the 22. My Benjamin discovery rifle is in .22 caliber. As far as the steel breeches they are different for each caliber there is a 22 caliber and 17 caliber or 1377 or 1322. For the price of the guns they are extremely accurate, as Mr. Champion and hundreds of online reviews will attest. I have more fun shooting them than any other guns I own. And you can't beat the cost of the ammo. I was just looking at 2 tins of Crossman .22 caliber hollow points I have with 500 pellets in each tin thinking to myself I have 1000 rounds right here in my hand for about $12!..You can also get a shoulder stock for them if you like, and if you like to tinker the modifications Are just about endless that you can get for them. There are even really fancy wooden grips you can get for them.
There wasnt a lot to narrate
I was completely disgusted with the piece of paper that came with it as the directions. It looked like a photocopy of a faxed photocopy. You couldnt read nothing on it.
But I was quickly hushed once I started tackling it blind, as it was pretty easy and took maybe 30 minutes.
Got the 1322 ordered today from Amazon, $54.95 plus $8.46 shipping. Could not find a breech, any suggestions? The one on the Crosman site is out of stock.
Pyramidair.com has them :yoyo:
Got it ordered! $34.95 plus $9.81 shipping. I can see that this is going to be another costly hobby. Had to do some measuring at the new place so while there I looked for a kill area. We have a breakfast nook off the kitchen with a window that faces the backyard. Figure I can put a bird feeder out there and shoot all day long. Maybe this civilized living ain't going to be to bad. :laf:
Thanks for all the info nasty.
A kill area :laf:
I got a couple of those. :eyebrow:
Bird feeders and pellet guns go together like peanut butter & jelly ....what are you going with for a sight system JohnP?....mine were great with open sights....the laser is good except in bright conditions and slower to get on target...really loving the red dot sight on handguns!
No idea what I'm going to put on it. I have a high dollar red dot that I could put on it but I bought it for my TC. I also have a couple of inexpensive fixed 4's that I could try. Then again I could buy a Leupold 4-24x50 for those shots beyond 15 yards. What's that hi-tech gizmo Jim has on his?
Thats a CenterPoint laser John
http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/CenterPoint_Quick_Acquisition_Laser_Sight_Adj_for_Windage_Elevation_11mm_Weaver_Rings/3490
I love it, but it does render invisible in bright sun light.
I really like the red dot on my 1377.. The laser is pretty fun target shooting but on moving targets like squirrels kind of difficult especially in the bright sun. I have also used a scope which works pretty slick too. I am going to put another red dot on my 1322.
I too like the red dot scopes BUT the brightness always enters into the situation out here. I am going to start off with an old Weaver 4x that has been collecting dust for the past 30 years. Got an e-mail from Amazon that my pistol has shipped.
Got my pistol today and the breech. Have to agree with Jim on the directions, I can't even see the directions let alone read them. May have to ship the gun off to Jim and have him do it for me.

I am not a certified Crossman gunsmith, but I did sleep at a holiday inn once!
I tried to find that video when I got ready to do mine and couldnt find it. So I had to use common sense and guess work on mine.
Two things I noticed in the video that are worth mentioning.
1- Either my gun is newer or that guy was working with a 1377 and not a 1322. I say that because the screw behind the grips that goes into the air chamber has nothing to do with a breech change on my 1322. It was never touched. The screw on the top of the breech (that goes down through where the old sites mounted) actually holds the back of the breech down. The rear breech plug has a hole in it for the screw to go down through.
2- It is of the utmost importance to make sure that the transfer port holes (in the barrel and the breech itself) are aligned perfectly. If they are not, you run the risk of crushing the transfer port when you tighten down the breech to seat it.
The transfer port (located between the barrel and the air chamber) will make a leap for the floor if your not ready, when you lift the old barrel and breech off the gun, so watch for it. I've attached a picture of it.
Also...the video doesnt mention which way the port is to be installed. So if it leaps to the floor during disassemble, you got as 50/50 chance of getting it right.
So the large diameter end goes down.

I don't remember it as being that complicated in the video, might be better videos if you look more on YouTube.
Well I hate to admit it but I'm at a loss. Got it all back together except the spring. I can get the spring into the sleeve in the air tube but how do you get the cap on. Shouldn't the sleeve that holds the spring have enough play in it to force the cap into place?
Decock the pistol John and then use the cap to compress the spring as you push it back into place.
But I still dont understand why this even has to be removed. Whats holding your cap in place? The screw that comes in down in from the top?...or the one underneath thats behind the pistol grips.
I never had to touch my air chamber, remove that spring or anything. The screw from the top pulls the breech down tight.
The cap is held in place by the bottom screw. Maybe I didn't explain it sufficiently. I'll post a picture later but right now I need to go into town. We are closing on the new house today and then the "boss" wants to go shopping for new furniture and paint and such.
P.S. I followed the instructions in nastygunz U-Tube video.
No pictures yet, house is in a state of extreme messiness. Packing boxes all over the place.
No rush John
Last night was one of sleepless nights. At 2AM I was rummaging through boxes and found the pistol. Watched the video again and got the gun put together. Now to mount a scope and get it sighted in.
just got home from the motherland glad she worked :yoyo:
I wanna know what ya missed the first time. What did you learn on the video that you missed the first time ya watched it?
John,
You just needed to be alone and have time to concentrate on your work. That should be your story.
Jerry
I think Jerry is right. I really don't know what I did or didn't do. I took it all apart and assembled it again and it worked. But you are absolutely correct about the air tube, no need to remove the spring and the air port can be a real pain.
Back to packing boxes.
Well that makes me feel a little better. I was beginning to wonder if they had more then one version of the 1322
Glad ya got it going. Now get the crap packed up so we can see some kill pics with this new toy. :laf:
