Now all of a sudden people are finding Morels in three and four pound batches. One guy at work claims he found 16 pounds one nite this week already. :wo:
Boy I woulda never guessed that the way they were hittin above us and dried up below us.
I must have whined JUuuuuuuust the right amount at work. I got there this morning and there was a medium sized igloo cooler setting next to my desk. And everyone stared at me as I walked in and said, "what the @%&$, I'm storing people lunches out here now?"
I cracked her open and there was a plastic grocery bag in there chuck full of fresh mushrooms :jump:
I looked back out at the silent crowd standing outside the receiving office, and the maintenance man, "says those are for all those Bluegills you brought me."
I was pretty thrilled. I didnt hug him...but the urge was there. :laf: Turned out to be a little under three pounds.
Ate some, froze some, and life is grand once again.

Nice ! ;yes;
I don't believe that I've ever eaten one, but they sure look good.

You know this is very revealing about what people think of you. Bravo!
Superb eating there, especially if you have any good cuts of venison left.
I don't believe I've ate one either. What's it similar (in taste) to, and the best way to cook?
I've never eaten one either, but damn I'm looking for em.
Does this mean you're getting out after them, or just continue with the 'bluegills for morels' program? :laf:
Sounds like you have a good thing going and I would continue to give that man bluegill. Easiest way I know to get mushrooms and no ticks. I saw a sign in Indiana where my daughter lives for Sponge Mushrooms. I about stopped till I saw the $35.00 per pound. I thought that was rather high, but then found this link: http://morelmushroomhunting.com/fresh_wild_mushrooms_for_sale.htm

They are superb sauteed in butter by themselves, but like most mushrooms, pick up flavors well and are fabulous cooked in a skillet with prime venison (my favorite) or in an omelet, etc. Maybe a little bit on the side of hazelnut flavor, (others correct me or give your flavor description) but it is the just-right-firm texture as well as taste that makes them fly. There is a reason I have seen them priced at $60 per pound.
I do like mushrooms, fried with just about anything and also raw in a salad. However I must admit I also never had any morels.
Thank God you stopped the man-hug!!!!
I've had people tell me the only way they will eat them is rolled in flour and fried. And just dont understand that. Why or how anyone could like the flavor blanded out by bleached flour is beyond me. :puke:
I'm with you Okanagan, sauteed in butter with a little salt and pepper, and they are to die for. Man o Man :eyebrow:
never had one either. college biology we were suppose to go hunt some . I hear roll in flower and fry on butter is best. Heard of one mushroom called the oyster of the woods might a been morels . I know there are oyster mushrooms but thought they were talking about morels

Wow! That looks like a good find.
When it rains it pours.
Unfortunately it wasnt my jackpot. Seen the pic in an article.
Morels are the only wild mushroom I will eat. There are other edible 'shrooms out there but one has to be really careful and I don't know them well enough.
