Got home tonight sat down on the porch to watch the storm move in and all hell broke loose. I could see a shelf cloud moving in from the southwest. Setting there watching that and all of a sudden the village siren whistle goes off, Volunteer fire dept is driving up and down the streets with their sirens going too, telling people to get in the hole. The wind picks up to gail force, there's crap flying everywhere and pretty soon you cant even hear the sirens over the roaring.
I've never been in the hole, never been afraid and figured I'd see it coming anyway. :nono: Tonight I went to the hole.
Found out afterwards it just missed the high school and devastated a Yogi bear campground outside of town. Havent heard too much more but I'm sure there's more.
A buddy of mine just texted to see if I was still here and sent this pic from his cell phone.

Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to close! Now I got some underwear to wash. :laf:
Glad you are ok Jim. :whew: What sort of a "hole" do you have? (basement, root cellar, commercial storm shelter...)
Pat
I have a "root cellar" type basement, if you could call it a basement, under the house.
Part of it is rickety cement floor, and part of it is dirt floor, and ALL of it has rock walls. The main part, it MMmmmmmmight be 10x12.
Accessed from outside the house, you have to bend down a bit to walk around down there. The water heater is down there, the oil furnace and it's barrel, and plenty of spiders :laf:
Wow! That is way too close. Glad you're ok and hope no one was seriously hurt.
Glad to hear that it missed you. Yogi can be rebuilt.
Jerry
Jim sure am glad your OK. And like Jerry said Yogi can be rebuilt. Whoever Yogi is.
Yeah that is too close!! Glad you're OK & we hope others faired well too.
Glad to hear you rode it out Jim! During the hurricane we had 100 mph winds for several hours. Not a dang thing you can do about it, except look after yourself and family. Things can be fixed and replaced. People cannot. Glad you are safe!
Dave
The power of a tornado is unbelievable. Glad to hear you're safe and sound Jimbo.
Around 5-6yrs ago. Wife & I stopped momentarily out in front of a small tornado. Base of the tornado was maybe 50' wide. It was a city block away or so, moving 5-10mph. When the in-flow wind hit us suddenly. It was pucker factor 10, right now. I floored the car & barely pulled away from the vaccume. Wife yelled the whole time. I had the foot pedal buried. I was doing around 75-80 going down the gravel road. Once we cleared the area. I looked in my rear view mirror. There was 2 guys in a small Datsun car right on my bumper. I have no idea where they came from.
