If your not watching, Discovery's "How We Invented The World: Guns" right now, you are missing out on some insanely interesting fodder. :eyebrow:
The first 44 mag basically invented by a reloading entrepreneur hit the market in 1955 for $119 and was considered a specialists hunting tool for 16 years because of the cost.
But once Clint Eastwood hit the big screen, sporting a 44 mag with his world re-known line, "do ya feel lucky?"... the sales took off and it took 15 years to catch up on orders.

Jim get your hands on some reading of Elmer Keith he was my pistol hero as Jack O'Connor was my rifle hero growing up. Couldn't read enough of their stuff. Elmer Keith is more than likely the guy they were talking about. I don't have basic T.V. So didn't see the show.
Yep it was him, they said he tinkered with different powder and bullet combinations for many years to get what he wanted. Apparently starting out by trying to concoct a pistol round for Bear and about broke his shooting wrist trying.
But now I forget who actually made the first frame for the round...cause Elmers original revolver wasnt going to hold up to the punch of his new 44 round.
Interesting as hell it was :eyebrownod:
