The Ky Fish and Wildlife folks have finalized regulations for night hunting coyotes. Shotguns only can be used at night and no lights can be used except February 1 through May 31. Otherwise coyotes can be hunted year round with no limit.

Ya gotta like that :congrats:
How long has this been in the works? I dont know if I heard anything.
It has been in the works for at least a year, and probably longer than that. Kentucky used to have a night coyote season several years ago but it got nixed over fears of deer poaching. Which didn't make sense because we have coon hunters running around with lights and guns at all hours of the night. :laf:
They put the light season at Feb 1-May31 by thinking a buck's antlers would be dropped and there would be less incentive for the night coyote hunter to poach. Kind of a goofy reason me thinks.
Sounds like you will be hunting under a full moon.
DNR always comes up with some strange regulations, but at least (around here) they seem to be headed in the right direction.

So we can night hunt for the 2014 LBL gathering?
Hell yeah!

Whoa, Bear! The LBL is federal land and they play by their own set of rules. They generally follow the state but not always. I doubt they will allow night hunting. But stay tuned.
Tuned in tight.
But that does raise a question. Can you hunt with lights on other federal land in other states?
Is LBL closed due to the govt shutdown??
Jim
There web site is.
I went to the USDA web site and it is down as well. But there is no mention of it being closed to the public

The website is still up at lbl.org
This is from the Alerts and Notices: Due to the lapse in federal government funding, the USDA Forest Service Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area, as with other federal agencies, is closed with the exception of certain essential services. However, we will attempt to make timely updates about public health and safety on this website as appropriate. We sincerely regret this inconvenience. For general information on Forest Service shutdown procedures, please visit the USDA’s website
This from Trails Update: October 10, 2013
•Turkey Bay Off-Highway Vehicle Area & Trails are OPEN.
•Most Hike and Bike Trails are OPEN.
•Wranglers Trails - Most horseback riding trails are OPEN. Except as noted below: ◦Wrangler's trails 6, 7, 8 and 12 (Hunt Area 10) will be closed to equestrian use October 26 & 27, 2013.
â—¦All Wranglers Trails will be closed to equestrian use Nov. 23 & 24, 2013 (all KY Hunt Areas 1-10) except for Wranglers Campground (WC) administrative area WC Trail 2 and a portion of WC Trail 1 will remain open.
Kind of a mixed message.

I thought that the LBL was shutdown right now as a part of that "inflict maximum pain possible" attitude from the Head Nazi.
But over on the KY site, they are saying the roads are open for hunting. None of the facilities are open though.
