If color didn't matter then shouldn't all the worlds fish be white or gray ?

Interesting article but the fascinating measurable facts didn't support his thesis IMO!

Most freshwater fishing is in the shallow depths where color shows well.  There is zero doubt that certain fish at certain times prefer certain colors in shallow depths.

Re deeper water:  Just because human eyesight loses color acuity at depths doesn't mean that fish eyes can't detect color.  A lot of deep water fish have big eyes, huge in proportion to their body as compared to a human.  And if only 1% of color remains at say 100 feet, if a fish is used to seeing that faint color, it is normal and significant to him.

Besides color, as the article says size, overall shape, speed and motion of lures are also important as every fisherman on this forum knows from experience.  We've all seen that one or more of those factors is more important at some times than at others. 

Interesting facts used to sell a piece of writing that felt like it had no personal engagement from the writer.  :biggrin:

Exactly! Comparing human visual acuity to another animal is usually wrong.
