Title: Ebola in America
Post by: FOsteology on August 01, 2014, 10:03:18 PM
Been hearing on the news today that two Americans infected with the Ebola virus in Liberia are going to be brought back to the U.S for treatment in an Atlanta hospital. There has never been a case (human) Ebola in the USA and if it gets out there could be many casualties....

Who authorized this? Obama and his Administration?

We are being led by phuggin' idiots. The doctors and other medical staff went over there to help, contracted Ebola and now our government wants to bring them home? What a bunch of idiots. Keep them there and treat them. If they live, GREAT. If they die then it's Gods will. Just don't bring them here and put 300+ million people at risk.

The medical community and obviously the WHO and CDC should know better than anyone what a terrible, terrible idea this is...

The Department of Defense informed Congress that it has deployed biological diagnostic systems to National Guard support teams in all 50 states, according to a report published by the Committee on Armed Services. The report, published in April amid growing fears that the Ebola hemorrhagic fever virus might spread outside of West Africa, says that the portable systems are designed for “low probability, high consequence” scenarios.

The US has always stuck their noses in to stuff that should of been left alone. Will this one be the one that does us all in?

As CBS reports,
A patient at Mount Sinai hospital is being tested after traveling to a country where the Ebola virus is present, the hospital said in a statement.

The man arrived at Mount Sinai’s emergency room early Monday morning with high fever and gastrointestinal symptoms.

The man told doctors he had recently traveled to a West African country where Ebola is present, the hospital said.

The man has been placed in “strict isolation” and is undergoing various tests to determine the cause of the symptoms, the hospital said.

All appropriate steps to keep patients, staff and visitors safe are being taken, the hospital said.

Many are attempting to play down the threat from this virus by stating that unless you "exchange bodily fluids" with someone that you don't have anything to worry about.

If that was truly the case, then how in the world have more than 100 health workers contracted the virus so far?

One would assume that Dr. Conrad did everything possible to keep himself from getting this disease. One would assume he took every precaution. And yet, here we are.

To think it can't happen here within our borders is sheer stupidity.

Ebola facts: No known cure......90% death rate.....So let's bring patients in to the U.S. and treat them.  What could possibly go wrong?    :doh2:

Folks, we are being led by incompetent ideological idiots.   Ebola is a virus. Viruses mutate.  If this disease becomes airborne, we are screwed.  Better make plans to move to the Alaskan bush soon.

In 1960 there were 3 billion people on earth.  A population that grew to 3 billion since the beginning to time.   Today there are 7 billion people on earth. More than doubling the population in slightly over 50 years.  People are a disease to the planet and the planet will correct this problem.  Maybe Ebola is the cure.       :wo:

In 1972 we, wife, two daughter’s and son returned from a two year tour in deep dark Africa, The Congo, then known as the Democratic Republic of the Congo.   Our home base was right on the shores of the Congo River, a bug, snake, croc and disease riddle area.  My stateside assignment was in DC, I was in a “dark” organization, civilian clothes, long hair, beard, etc and no one was to know we were in the military.  One late evening our youngest daughter came down with what appeared to be the flu, wife took her to the doc the following day and sure enough she was diagnosed with the flu, usual meds prescribed.  Two days later no improvements, back to the doc, different meds, see me in two days if not better.  That night we took her to the ER.  The ER Doc had no clue what was causing the problem.  He asked if we had been out of the country lately.  Told him we just recently returned from the Congo, that set off all kinds of alarms.  Put her, wife and I plus the other two kids in isolation and started a series of test.  Everything turned out negative and two days later we went home.  He told us that there is so much we don’t know about the diseases that come out of not only Africa but the Middle East that they take no chances.  That was forty-two years ago and we still haven’t learned a damn thing about keeping our population safe.

Heard this morning that the first case of Ebola transmission in the United States has occurred. A Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital worker (nurse) who treated Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan has tested positive for the deadly virus.

No reason to be alarmed folks, Obama and the CDC says this is not easily transmitted.
Meanwhile, Obama welcomes Africans with open arms, saying fly right in. CDC says flight restrictions do more harm than good. Why are people so fuggin' stupid???

Just did a quick search and it isn't confirmed that anyone other than the two nurses are infected. They had a whole article on the possibility that a third person and rumors said it may be her boyfriend. Might just be a newspaper trying to get a nonexistent scoop.   But they hold info back so well wait and see.

Pray for America folks

Nina Pham's boyfriend (as well as her parents) work for Alcon. They're the only source I've come across that indicates her boyfriend has been admitted to the hospital for ebola like symptoms.

A Dallas health care worker who handled clinical specimens from an Ebola-infected patient is on a cruise ship in the Caribbean - with the worker self-quarantined and being monitored for signs of infection, the State Department said in a statement.

According to the government statement, the worker departed on a cruise ship from Galveston, Texas on Oct. 12 and was out of the country before being notified of active monitoring required by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

That monitoring was established as two nurses at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, Nina Pham and Amber Vinson, tested positive for Ebola.

The worker on the cruise did not have direct contact with patient Thomas Eric Duncan, but may have had contact with his clinical specimens, authorities said. The employee â€" who has not been identified â€" has not had a fever or demonstrated any symptoms of illness, authorities said.

“The worker has voluntarily remained in the cabin and the State Department and Cruise line are working to bring the worker back to the U.S. out of an abundance of caution,” the Department of State said in the release.

Pham arrived in Maryland Thursday to receive treatment at the National Institute of Health’s Clinical Center.

Meanwhile, Vinson is at Emory University Hospital, listed in stable condition, her relatives said.

“Amber is a respected professional and has always had a strong passion for nursing,” a statement from her family says. “She followed all of the protocols necessary when treating a patient in Dallas, and right now, she’s trusting in her doctors and nurses as she is now the patient.”

Federal officials say Vinson may have had Ebola symptoms on Oct. 10, the day she flew on a passenger plane from Dallas to Cleveland. As a result, passengers on her Oct. 10 flight will also be monitored, authorities announced.

Pham started exhibiting Ebola symptoms after Vinson had traveled to Ohio, health officials say.

Then again I'm probably missing something here as I aint too bright most times.

Ebola Scare Creates "UTTER PANIC" on Caribbean Cruise Ship!

Jeremy Malone saw 30 to 40 crew members with buckets of disinfectant who were lined up on along his hallway as they prepared to clean the ship Courtesy Jeremy Malone

(NEW YORK) â€" There is “utter panic” on the Carnival cruise ship where a Dallas hospital employee who helped care for an Ebola patient who died has been put in quarantine. The ship is now being sent back to Texas after being turned away from both Belize and Mexico, one of the passengers said.

“People are scared,” passenger Jon Malone told ABC News as the Carnival Magic cruise ship was waiting miles off shore from Cozumel, Mexico. “I’ve seen people crying.”

The chaos started Friday morning when there was an announcement on the ship’s intercom saying “that someone who worked in the lab who handled the person in Dallas’ blood was on the ship,” Jon’s brother and fellow passenger Jeremy Malone told ABC. The cruise line said the woman is in isolation on board the ship.

“You’re using the same buffet line as someone else, the same waiters, the folks that clean the state rooms. If someone was cleaning their state room and cleaned yours right after, the exposure that you have there to elevators…” he said. “It’s very tight quarters and a lot of interaction. It’s really difficult to control any type of virus that’s on a cruise ship. It’s like a floating petri dish. It spreads very rapidly.”

Though the cruise line has not released the name of the passenger or her location, the Malones fear that her room may be on their floor because when Jeremy walked outside his room Friday morning, he saw a group of 30 to 40 workers gathered with buckets of what looked like cleaning chemicals.

“Some of them had masks on,” Jon Malone said.

“They had a pink liquid in clear spray bottles and they had little wagons that had grey containers â€" like mop buckets â€" filled with chemicals,” he said. “They’re cleaning elevators. I’ve seen people with pink liquid cleaning the bar area and the handrails.”

The workers wouldn’t answer questions about what room or floor the hospital employee was staying on, but Jeremy said that he fears that she was on the 11th floor because the workers “kind of looked at each other and smiled. They didn’t know what to say.”

The first signs of trouble emerged Thursday night when they did not leave Belize at 6 p.m. as intended to make their way to Cozumel.

“The ship wasn’t going anywhere. We were parked maybe 10 miles from the shore, so that was unusual,” Jeremy Malone said. “Several hours go by and we still haven’t moved and they hadn’t made any announcements or anything.”

The first word they received came while attending a comedy show on board when an employee indicated that a passenger was ill and needed to be taken off the ship, but made no mention of Ebola.

Carnival released a statement Friday confirming the presence of a lab supervisor from Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital on board the ship, but said that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention deemed the woman “low risk.”

“At no point in time has the individual exhibited any symptoms or signs of infection and it has been 19 days since she was in the lab with the testing samples,” the statement said. The incubation period for Ebola is believed to be two to 21 days.

Neither Carnival nor any government officials from Belize, Mexico or the United States have confirmed the reported change of travel plans, but the Malones shared a letter that they received from Carnival Friday morning that the ship planned to arrive in Cozumel at 10 a.m. and depart at 6 p.m.

Jeremy Malone said the captain and cruise director have subsequently made another announcement saying they are headed back to Galveston, Texas.
