Title: 1st crows for the 2014-15 season
Post by: HaMeR on October 12, 2014, 01:22:59 PM
Went out yesterday for the 1st crow shoot of the year. Had a nice blind built at one of my favorite fields. Got there about 2 minutes early to trim the past years growth back. But found the farmer had pushed the field edge back & with that went my blind. Scrambled to get a 1/2 decent blind to hide in & worked on it some during the slow time. Spent 3hrs there yesterday & did ok.

Ended up with 11 for the day. 10 in the 1st pic & as I was packijg up I realized I hadn't unloaded the 870. Left it set while I got the decoys put away & heard a crow maybe 200yds out & heading my way. Hit the FP on low Crow Fight volume & waited. Flew right into the gun barrel for #11.

Here's ol #11.

And a small carnage shot. I've had better carnage shots.

Shoulda had more as I hit several birds hard & watched them limp away with what appeared to be broken wings & they made the tree line 300yds +/- away but all in all it was a good day.

Glen,

It does look like you had a good day.  Just being outside is good, but shooting the crows would be a bonus.

Hamer,
So from the look of the picture, you would just leave the downed birds and keep huntin? The crows would still come in with the dead ones laying there huh?

Jerry-- I couldn't agree with you more my Friend!! Twas a good morning.

KYBS-- Yes. Unless the incoming birds start acting funny or staying too high. Then I'll go out & fold their wings back & shove their beak in the ground.  :laf: :laf:

nailbender-- I wanted to get out last weekend but I fell asleep in the recliner on Saturday night & forgot to set my alarm.  :laf: :laf:

Jim-- Yes it was!! I still had 3 shells in the shotgun when another 1/2 dozen flew in a bit too high. I lead em a bunch & actually shot close enough to one to alter it's flight path. But alas ol #12 never made it into the picture.  :nono: :nono:   I'm guessing 50yds or so is a little far out there for my limited shotgun skills.  :laf: :laf:

Jim-- It's a lot of fun!! You need to get out sometime & try it!!
