Made it out on the ice this morning by 6:00. Figured if I got out there early enough I wouldnt have to wade through people or snuggle up to a moron for a good spot.
It worked...but thats all it did. I was the first one out there and had the place to myself for the first hour. Caught one damn fish by 9:00...blah.

Well as long as you were going to fish, you were successful. If you were going to catch then it is a different story.

1 fish is better than 0 fish.
And time above ground is better than time under it
Wish you'd have caught more fish but you had a pretty good morning by most lights: Having the ice all to yourself on a frozen lake as the dawn comes on.
At least you weren't skunked :congrats: :congrats:
Fishin is easier than catchin eh?? LOL I bet you still had a good time.
it's enough to make a biscuit taste good...

I was thinking about the mud cats when I read this... when I was stationed up in MI we caught a few through the ice in the boat basin... this was built with sea wall all the way around so water was deep right up to the walls... used to catch a few fishing right up on the walls, mixed in with bluegills...
Never caught a cat through the ice :nono: Didnt even know it was possible.
Infisherman has had a few shows on fishing for channels through the ice. I know on a local lake they catchm through the ice when fishing for walleyes and pike. We catchm on the river at ice out when the water temp is right at 33 degs. drop a piece of bait in front of their face and they'll eat it. Flatheads I don't think are active that cold though.
I might try to get out and drill some holes this weekend. I think the ice is going to be in rough shape though. Highs in the 40's all week and now snow today might make it too soft. We'll see.
Did I miss the fish fry? :laf:
Yah LOL, I did too Dave :eyebrownod:
a buddy was out on a local pond yesterday and hammered em. He said 30 fish in 30 minutes between two of em. I have fished this pond and it isn't hard to fill a 5 gallon bucket in short order with a few guys. but this pond is weird you can go one day and nothing and then the next have a great day. I wish I knew what made these fish just stop eating.
Pattern them. It'll likely come down to barometric pressure
finally got out on the ice this past weekend jim.
I took an old friend out to show him how to jig for panfish because he was having a hard time getting bites. He brought along a fishfinder he had setup like a flasher and that was nice. He dropped the transducer in the hole and says there is one 2 foot down. I told him I have never caught one right under the ice like that. well I dropped my jig down 2 ft and did some jigging and wham. We ended up catching 5 gills and a bass. kept all 5 gills because they were pretty chunky. caught all but one 2 ft under the ice on tipped kastmasters and jigs.
