Wouldn't it be interesting to read a history of that property? Great pictures.
Yes it would Al!! Thanks!!
Diane said Thanks bender!!
Diane did a great job on the shots. Is the spring house locked? If not, check it out for me.
Jerry
Glen that sure looks like a neat place! Your wife did a great job with the pics.
I really would love one of those spring houses on my place! They look so neat, i could see the faces on a the little kids when i made up storys about who lived in it.
Nice pictures.
This here looks like the rear entrance to Mr. Baggins home.

Very interesting pics. Whats a spring house?? That thing really peaked my interest. :wo:
Thank You one & all. Diane likes taking pictures & I don't mind taking her!! :holdon: Out to take the pictures!! :whew: :laf: :laf:
Will do Jerry!!
Jim-- Back in the day,, ie before refrigerators,, folks would find a shaded spot with a constant spring to store their perishables such as eggs & milk in. Others would dig holes such as what is above & put a door on it to keep the rodents & sun out. Depending on their location I assume. We would visit a Family waaaay out in the country when I was a kid & we would go in their spring house instead of the kitchen to get a drink. There were little lizards in there. Being from in town I was kinda freaked they drank that water at 1st. But on my 1st glass I was hooked!!
The 2nd eagle pic is now my background screensaver thingy whatever!!

Thats interesting :wo: Interesting as "L". There's no such thing up here. We just set it out on the wood pile. :eyebrownod:
And go out in the morning & chip a glass of milk off!! :laf: :laf:
if your spring house was in a shaded spot it would keep stuff around 50°-55° all year round... winter time it would keep it from freezing also... dig a pool/pond right outside where the water exited the house and you had an excellent spot to put a fish box to keep fish/bait alive till you needed them... if you were lucky you could grow water cress for salads also... many good things about a spring house...
Thank you Diane for taking the pictures and thank you Glen for posting them. Brought back some old memories.
We had a bathtub in our spring house, milk and other perishable were stored in it. Dad or grand dad had put in an overflow pipe a few inches below the rim. Water came in from the spring into the bathtub then out of the bathtub into the stream about ten feet from the spring house. Also had boxes filled with saw dust that we would store root crops in, taters, carrots, etc also our apples. Grand dad also keep this home made wine in there - dago red.
Down here in the south they stored their brew ( called Moon Shine ) in the spring. They would swear there was nothing any better than a cold spring water. :hahaha:
Never heard of such a thing. :nono: I spose it's like us keepin our beer, and wine and meat on the porch when the fridge gets too full. :laf:
If I lived down there, I'd have to live in a "Spring House" cause it's just too flippin hot everywhere else.
Neat pics. I'd be for salvaging those old slate shingles.
That thought crossed my mind snafu. Then the thought about being on that roof when it finally came crashing to Earth settled in just in front of the original thought keeping me safe!! :laf: :laf:
