Title: Censored photos from World War II
Post by: possumal on February 04, 2015, 03:59:28 PM
This is a great group of black and white pictures from World War II, some of the best I have ever seen. There are a couple of links at the end that will allow you to view some more photos.

Sure makes that war a lot more real.  I wonder what feelings they would bring up to those who were pictured there.

Wow - thanks for posting

Picture 67 is sort of meaningful to me.  My uncle Frank Pinciotti was one of the 1500 marines involved in recapturing the Philippines from the Japanese.  He and two others from his gun crew took the lids off of a few powder boxes and Uncle Frank scrolled a note for MacArthur:

"By the grace of god, and a few marines,
MacArthur returned to the Philippines."

It’s said that he fumed and raved, and wanted to have the ones responsible for this sign court-martialed, but no one knew who did it (other than the gun crew).

I had a brotherinlaw who was at Iwo Jima, and got wounded there.  Something about these pictures give all those events a lot realism for me.  God bless all who served and who are serving now.
