Art and I did an all night and all day hunt a week ago. We do this every now and then to keep our sanity. Its in the absolute middle of nowhere. Seen nothing but one coyote called in at the end of the day. This was on public land in one of our favorite draws.
What I don't get and what fanicates me about calling and coyotes in general, is this was after four local calling contests and there's a gov trapper with hundreds of traps in the area, but yet this one or two year old was able to avoid all that.
I was ending the stand after throwing all my "outside the box" garbage I could think of with my howler and ecaller. I stood up and was done due to missing a warm vehicle and there he was to my right looking toward where the sound was coming from in front of us.
He didn't see me...I guess. I got back down, wasted lots of time not finding him in the scope at 40 yards, then finally leveled the crosshairs and pulled the trigger on my Kimber .204. I've been lucky like that only a couple other times but it happens.
I gave him to the rancher where Art keeps his camper. The coyote didn't bleed a drop till he hung up.
On a side note...two or three months ago we did this and counted 8 or 9 porqupines moving through a field or down the road (at night) and got the lights on a huge bobcat crossing the road in front of us(which was weird considering this is mostly flat land). Just seems like everything moves everywhere at once.

That's a good looking coyote Brad!! Congratulations on a good time & a successful hunt!! :yoyo: :yoyo:
Art didnt tell us about this :innocentwhistle: :laf:
Nicely done. Sounds like a perfect get away
We saw more animals in a city block a few months ago, than we saw in over 100 miles of dirt road the last time. I was ready to throw in the towel before noon, but it did pay off.
Driving around joking and exploring the back roads is a great way to unwind and vent.
It is always good to get away even if the hunting is not all that productive.
