Title: Well its enough for supper...
Post by: FinsnFur on February 20, 2016, 12:05:35 PM
40 some degrees out there for some reason. Water is running across the roads and the bluegills think spring is here.
Still drilling through 16 to 18 inches of ice. I managed to pull these minnows up through early this morning [emoji97] [emoji226] [emoji476]

16 to 18 inches of ice is something else.  We normally have the river freeze over but this year it only crusted over twice.  Both times looked to be less than a half inch thick.

Jim, you would have hated it, but I loved it.  Never got the snowblower out, but did use the leaf blower on the snow about four times.

In southern Arizona a river 16 to 18 inches deep is something else.

Heckuva weekend. Showed up in the dark this morning thinking I'd be the first one on the ice and there were 6 others out there with headlamps. [emoji31]
I fished till around lunch time and brought home 14 more.

The ice is still thick but its getting soft. Instead of feeling like were drilling through concrete it feels like we're drilling through wood.
If the temperature stay in the high 30's like they have been all weekend,  Im wondering if there will be enough ice to make it out one more time next weekend.

very nice.  Do you ever try to get the flap of meat along the belly on them bream?  on the big ones there's a equally as large a portion as the back.

I have done them that way before on a couple Ben. But its usually so thin around the ribs/stomach area that I dont mess around with it for the time it takes to make it boneless.

Yea it really does depend on the size of the fish for me.  Bass I always fillet the belly portion out.  bream and crappies depends on size.  I'm ready to be out on the boat this winter can end anytime.
