Title: Newborn Moose calves
Post by: Tikaani on May 20, 2016, 02:59:15 PM
I took these pictures when these calves were about 6 hours old. Born right in my friends backyard.

Cool photos John!  I would imagine that complacent cow would take on a whole new persona if you got too close. :nofgr:

Dave,
I took the one where they are laying from behind a wood pile, the other from in the house. She was very stressed with labored breathing but on high alert. The next day the little ones had their legs and she moved them into the woods. hope all is well with you.

Me too!  Thanks.

While hunting spring bears one year a friend and I saw a moose calf just dropped on a river gravel bar.  When we checked on them a bit later they had moved under nearby timber and the cow was licking the wobbly calf so hard she would almost knock it down.  Pretty russet color on the calf.
