OK I am trying to help out my cousin Darren.
He has a knife/dagger blank and he is wanting ideas for putting the scales on this dagger.
Here's a pic of the blank and we want to see if anyone has ever seen the like of it.
While I have not worked on one identical to that I have finished a few daggers. I didn’t see much difference between those and any other blade. If he has finished off any other knife he shouldn’t have any problem at all. Just tell him to be extra careful when he starts polishing because a dagger can cut you coming and going.

He is trying to figure out how to work the lanyard hole into the scale. He's afraid it will be too thin between the hole and the edge of the faux ivory scales he is planning on using.
I'm lost six ways from Sunday here
Basically he is wanting to see a Handel on the same blank so he has an idea if he wants the scales to cover the lanyard hole or if he wants to cut it into the scales. He is worried that it will be too thin at the back of the hole.
I gave him my thoughts but he would still like a pic of what others have doNE with the same knife
Is it possible to leave the lanyard area of the scales thicker to act as a stop so his hand won't slip off the back end of the knife?? That will leave a more substantial amount of ivory back there to work with.
If he is really concerned he could always polish the lanyard area and then add the scales in front of it leaving the metal exposed.
Hawk just nails what I told Fozzy to do.
I should have added a size reference in the pic. The OAL is 6 inches. Me personally I think its size would make it a good letter opener.
That looks good Hawks feather, I like that idea :eyebrownod:
Hello there shortround!

Welcome to the board Shortround
Thanks guys, means a lot to have friends like you
Fozzy has handled other knives. In fact our local Canadian is using a skinner that he handled. And if I remember correctly that knife does a great job on moose.
Hey what ya know. I found what knife blank he has. It's a jantz/koval SS167. Didn't find any that were already handled but at least I identified the thing.
