I never tried it, but in my younger days I thought it would be a blast. I did grab about a 20 lb flat head at 80 ft deep in the Lake Ouachita, in Arkansas. This lake is the 3rd clearest in the United states. I didn' hold on long. he kicked loose pretty fast.

its easy f-n-f, you swim out in the middle of the Mekong river, wait till one of these swims by
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v54/RiverBoy/giantcatfish.jpg)
grab his lower jaw, and drag him ashore.
seriously though it would be fun if they never got above 10-12 pounds, or even bigger in shallow water, wouldn't want to hang onto a 50#'er in 20 ft of water.
RR
I've read about guys keeping a rope in hand with a loop in the other end, shove hand in mouth, when cat clamps down reach through gill plate get hold of rope, pull it through put end through loop like your putting them on a stringer and drag them out, now how you convince him to let go of your hand I haven't a clue!

:holdon: No! Seriously! We used to wade the creeks & reach up into the holes in the bank fer snappers. It's a little more involved than that, but that's what we did.

I've read about noodleing snappers, the article said "9 out of 10 go in the hole headfirst" so my best guess is that if ya get 9, ya quit and go home, call it a good day!

If'n ya talk to some one at Ky afield nice enough maybe they can show a piece from a clip they did on noodling turtles. And they also have the Turtleman, nut case works them in open ponds. He just stands on them long enough to figure out where th head is and grabs the tail. But watching t5hat video you can tell the old boy is two or three bubbles off plumb  Jimmie

I think for me to try grabbing turtles I would need to be more that two or three bubbles off plumb.  Maybe two or three bottles of something.

grabbing snappers is crazy.. Id never do it.. Ive seen some of the scars from it.. Lose a finger real quick.

Plus running along banks is gonna run you into water moccassins one day...
