"Subject: Researchers trace age of mammoth rib fragment from Vermont

Woolly mammoths may have walked the landscape when early humans did in what is now called New England, according to a Dartmouth study. Through the radiocarbon dating of a mammoth's rib fragment found in Mount Holly, Vt., the researchers learned that the mammoth existed some 12,800 years ago, around the time that humans are thought to have arrived in the region."
