Title: Unusual Fall, few elk but found a body
Post by: Okanagan on November 09, 2022, 11:30:53 AM

In the September archery and permit seasons we had hot weather with high winds and heavy smoke from forest fires.  The elk were silent and holed up so tightly that they left no tracks in any usual places.  No luck for any of our family.

My son and grandsons went back east to hunt elk and scattered in Idaho, Colorado and Montana.  They got one pretty 6x6 bull in a blizzard, and found a human skull and bones, to which they took a sheriff's deputy.  There has been no further word on that.

One of the grandsons had his vehicle snowed in while he backpacked solo for elk.  We thought he could not get it out till next June, but a kind hunter with a crawler tracked snow machine pulled him a mile and a half up over a wind drifted pass to where he could drive on out.

Great that there was a crawler around.
Snow and wind has pretty much shut down hunting around me.
Guess I'll just shoot the yard critters that keep me dog barking.
