FWIW dept.: After my high A1c of 11 (blood sugar 269) on March 7, it took me five more weeks to see the diabetic specialist, with no instructions meanwhile. I researched and made up my own program. Since the body makes carbohydrates into blood sugar, I figured that if I don't put carbs into my bod it won't have anything handy to make blood sugar; so the blood sugar level will have to come down.
That plan seemed to be working by the time I saw a diabetic specialist, so she said to keep doing it. It is pretty much a Keto diet, with a majority of fat, then protein and as low of carbs as I can achieve.
In addition to eliminating as much carbs as possible I walk a half hour each day, eat some olive oil, and drink a teaspoon of cinnamon in hot water each morning. Cinnamon appears to lower blood sugar, and I figured it won't hurt anything. I'm under 20 grams of carbs most days. Blood sugar dropped right away to 130, then the past ten days has run 91 to 106, mostly in 90's.
A1c is a measure of average blood sugar level for the past three months so I want to wait till I have three months on this eating/exercise plan to test it again.
I don't crave any food, like bread or potatoes, which surprises me, but eating meat, fish and low carb veggies like spinach and broccoli has been easy for me to follow so far. We have lots of venison, salmon and eggs from a grandson with chickens. I do hate exercise for the sake of exercise and find it hard to walk just to walk. Need a fishing hole to walk to or a ridge with a buck on it to climb.
You are doing very well in controlling you blood sugar. I was diagnosed in 2000. Controlled blood sugar with diet for eight to ten years and needed to go on medication. About eight years ago I was put on insulin. Couple months back, I started a very reduced carb diet. Seems to be working. I have days were the blood sugar is elevated, but staying in the "normal" range mostly. I applaud your efforts, as it is not an easy path to walk.
Sounds like you are doing well. Pray it keeps up.
Forgot, have you researched apple cider vinegar ? Supposed to help diabetes.

Hadn't looked at apple cider vinegar but after reading up on it, will use it in my oil and vinegar salad dressing in place of balsamic and red wine vinegar I've been using. Thanks for the tip.
A diced up tomato liberally sluiced with olive oil and a bit of vinegar makes a tasty salad and an easy way to intake olive oil. My wife likes it even though she has no diet reason to eat it. I goose it with seasoning salt, lots of coarse ground black pepper and for her, coarse grated smoked Gouda cheese.
