How long have you been predator hunting? What states have you hunted predators in?
I have been calling coyotes for about 25 years in the south. I have hunted
AL
GA
FL
TX only one day
TN
KY
I shot one or two from the truck window before but only been seriously calling the last 18. I do remember thinking I was the only one in the south until 5 years ago. Chet (AKA Coyotehunter_1) Has been coyote hunting before they made it across the big river. He knew if he called they would come.
I would have started earlier but they were not here yet in my area.
I guess it's been about six years now seriously.
I hunt NH, VT, and Mass on a regular basis. Hunted in NY a time or two, same wit Maine, but never in the real predator kingdom of the west.

THO Game Calls
From the subject line on this one I was thinking it might be a similar subject as what fills my email junk folder every day :shck:
I have only gotten into preadator hunting this past spring. Just long enough to catch the bug and beg for fall to come. Back in my younger years I trapped a lot with a buddy who now lives in Maine. I started trapping again several years ago. This winter my buddy started calling me and telling me to check out his pics of cats and yotes on the web. That was all it took to get me interested. My next called in and shot yote/cat will be my first and I'm hopeful that I'll be showing ya'll some pics come fall.

I've hunted coyotes in Wisconsin :shck: , Texas, Arizona, Iowa, and Missouri.
And Rich Higgins, you are welcome up here absolutely any time you feel like coming this far. I'll put a roof over your head, if you put coyotes in front of mine.

I have been calling coyotes since 1955. Been at it pretty steady. There was a short time while I was in the service I didn't do too much, but when I went home on leave I would go hunting. I have stayed with this hobby more than anything I have ever done. I still get a kick out of it and probably always will. It's a great sport.
I have only been at it for about two years. I have hunted deer and all the feathered ones for about 50 years. No other hunting thrill compares with predator hunting for me. I think about it every day!
Bob
Rich you ever get the urge to come out to South Carolina, just let me know. Your more than welcome to come hunt with me anytime.
I have been trappin and callin fox and coyotes since i was in my teens. So i'd say somewhere around 22 to 25 years?
When I first started there were no coyotes around here. All of my callin was at night for fox. Then one morning while runnin my traps, wow, i musta only been about 15 at the most cause i was walkin the line then. Well i come out of the woods and out in the middle of the field in a bulldoze pile downwind about 250 yards. Out steps 2 twin german shepards..LOL..
At least that was my first thought, then it hit me, Those are coyotes!! I have been infatuated with hunting and trapping them since. Just ask anyone that has grown up with me, they all thought i was crazy. I have always hunted whitetails, with gun and bow, but my main obsession are coyotes. Because they are the best in the business here and i like the challenge.
I have been able to hunt in:
OH
AZ
IN
CO
KY
TN
So far, as the video's progress I am hopin to hunt many more states.
JD
Six years...and untill this summer, year round.
Montana, North Dakota, and Canada.

Started calling coyotes in 1990. Group hunted with pickup and CB for four or five years before I started calling. Not too many coyotes here until the mid 80's, due to the farm programs(crp). Spot and stalked Reds since the mid-70's.
IA,ID,SD,ND,MN, MT,MO
Jez by the looks of it I need to get out of the state a little more.
Let's see.... :wo: my daughter is almost 9......hmmm......carry the 2........divide that by 3......the common denominator is............uh.......no........yeah....here we go........
about 8 years I guess........some years I have more time than others, so the learning curve equation has been impeded at times while it accelerates very rapidly at others.
My best guess is 7 or 8. :readthis: How good of a coyote hunter I am? Still a cherry BABY!!!
Been calling coyotes with a gun in Tennessee only.
Called for coyotes without a gun, so as to remain legal in: :innocentwhistle:
Colorado
Nebraska
Kentucky
Kansas
I think that's about it.
Jim and Ronnie, thank you gentlemen, both, for your kind invitations. I would like very much to talk to both of you about calling with you later this winter.
Well about four years since I had my first taste of it with a buddy. Two years ago I decided if I wanted to do it I was on my own because the only time he would go was at night with snow and we haven't had much the last two years. So started my education.
Really applied myself late last winter and began to have some limited success. I called a few in, I just couldn't finish the job!! :madd: The education continues!
This year is it! I'm gonna kill 'em. Got some great areas with good populations and more determination than ever.
JUST Iowa so far. This year i'm going to stretch that list hopfully!
Rich you dont forget about MO...You know your always welcome here. See ya at the campout!
Steve, I promise that I will do a hunt with you in Mo. I also promise we will get you some more video at the campout. I'm really looking forward to this. Believe me, they are memorable.
Didn't get serious about it until the coyote had been here in the area several years. I have been at it for eighteen years now. I am still a pup and still learning. I don't know of another critter you can chase that changes and adapts as much over such a short time.Jimmie
Called my first coyote by accident crow hunting 31 years ago. I didn't know a thing about them, and actually, the state said we had no coyotes then!
Lots have stuff has changed in my life over that 31 years time. New jobs, kids have grown up ( most of them ), wives have come and gone , but the one constant in my life has been coyote hunting.
Don't chase 'em quite as hard as I used to, but the Eastern coyote is still my favorite animal, and easily the most cunning of our predators to hunt here in New England!
Been hunting in all New England states for Preds, and only been hunting out West once in Colorado.
Come on November........ :eyebrownod:
Welcome to the site Sleddog :yoyo: good to see ya.
Been hunting Predators since I was old enough to tote a gun. Killed my first Grey fox blowing on a blade of grass. Carried an old single shot 12 Gage that would completely come apart with every shot. Forarm would be in my left hand, barrel on the ground, and stock in my right hand. Got pretty fast at re-assembly and re-loading. Sometimes I'd even get a second shot off before my quarry made it's get away.
I've hunted Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, West Virginia, Alaska, Colorado, and North Carolina.
A little over a year seriously. Northeast GA.

Having been born and raised on a working ranch from the late 40's, one of my "chores" was to rid the place of vermin from a very young age. Mostly with BB guns and my first 22 rifle at first, then a 22 Hornet and trusty old 30-Gun Gramps gave me until I started buying my own firearms specifically for predators during my high school days. Hunted by chance opportunities at first, spot and stalk as I got better at it, and I made and used my first willowleaf mouth calls by the time I was 9 or 10. That is when I feel my real predator hunting days started, because the calls and 22 Hornet really openned up a whole new world for me. I really loved learning all about the lives of my prey during those early experiences (still do), trying to figure out how to out smart them (still do), stalk into range, etc. So it became a favored type of hunting for me about 47-48 years ago.
I've done predator hunting of some kind or another in:
UT, ID, OR, WY, MT, ND, SD, CO, NM, TX, AZ, CA, HI - the YT, Mexico and Costa Rica.
(I intentionally left VN off the list to be PC - :iroll: ).
Just started on predators. And from the looks of things, I've got a really big learning curve to go through. Before now, deer and turkeys primarily occupied my time.
Semp
PHffffffffft! then you'll feel right at home with the rest of the turkeys in here Semp :laf:
I started hunting predators shortly after I got my first "22"... I was 7 years old and it was 1958. A fox raided the chicken house and I was the only one with the time to go get her.
We had a fresh snow and I tracked her to her den. Killed her and her 3 pups while they sunned on an old log and I've been a confirmed predator hunter ever since.
Most predators I've ever called in were called without the aid of calls or electronics. I just learned to imitate the sounds of desparate prey.
I've hunted predators in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Texas and Colorado. I liked Colorado the best and i currently reside in Florida where we have the toughest predator hunting in the world.
Anyone that doesn't believe it can just come on down and show me how it's done...
I've only once had a taker on that offer and I've made that offer many a time. There is a famous predator hunting movie maker that just might show up in February and I've promised him a try at our bobcats and coyotes here.
Rich.... You're more than welcome to come here and try it out too... I live in a 550,000 acre National Forest that's eat up with big coyotes that eat deer almost exclusively and bobcats that do the same. They're not call shy but the terrain and brush make the hunting quite tough. Calling them in ain't the hard part.... It's seeing them before they get your wind and slip away.
I have several tree stands and know these woods pretty well so it CAN be done..... Bring a video camera and I promise you some interesting footage.

I am a relatively new hunter who has just been coyote hunting 5 times I have blown on my critr call standard model most of thime in the woods, sill no action. I hunt a 180 acre farm with cornfields, thick brush, and plenty of game for them. I know there is yotes in the area because I have killed several while deer hunting, Will you give me some of your tips on how to call one of these wily animals up. I will be going in late december just for the note.
Thank you,
Tyler Joyner
