I drove to Oak Ridge to do a little shooting yesterday. While I was there I was able to watch the rifle teams shoot at around 600 yards. Open sights with AR's at 600 yards :bowingsmilie: these guys and gals could shoot. Heck I could hardly see that far. Hats off to these people. :congrats:
What is even more fun is to watch the "Rattle Battle" at camp Perry. Rather than watching a couple of teams you get to watch MANY teams. And yes, they can shoot. They are better off hand with open sights than I am with a bench and a scope.

Rattle Battle. Now that sounds like a blast. No pun intended. These people take real life shooting situations to a new level. I am glad they are there to defend our freedoms. They are the best.
What's that??? The Oak Ridge Boys? :eyebrownod:
Friends of mine have shot a few "Rattle Battles". They never did all that great but they said it was alot of fun! One of these days I'm gonna give it a try.
Someone fill me in on what a Rattle Battle is.......

I've never tried it but it sounds like fun.
It does sound like fun............could you see some of us out there as the FNF'rs........
At Camp Perry there are enough teams shooting at the same time that even with smokeless powder there is a haze that quickly rises over the firing area. I was shooting in the Garand Match a couple of years back and the Rattle Battle went on in the next range over. I though we were making some noise till they cut loose. For what it is worth, I was not shooting in the Garand to be competitive, I was shooting the match for fun and also to qualify for CMP rifle purchases. The Garand shoot is open to any "military" rifle and is not limited to the Garand. I was shooting a 1917. There are some very good shooters that take it seriously, but I am not that good.
