Title: Backroads wandering in Idaho and Oregon

I got in my car and started driving.  On the third day I stopped at a garage sale in Orofino, ID and after asking where I was from the lady asked me where I was going.  "I don't know," I replied.  "How many days are you going to be traveling?" she asked.  I don't know," I replied.

The photo above is looking into Hell's Canyon from a remote road on the Oregon rim.  Unseen in the bottom is the Snake River and the other side of the canyon is somewhere in the Seven Devil's Wilderness area of Idaho.

I had supper with a few of my high school class of '64.  Then I had a sirloin with my grandson in Lewiston, ID, a stale packaged donut in the bottom of Hell's Canyon and a superb prime rib in McCall, ID.  Mule deer on a gravel forest service road over a pass, a small whitetail buck hit by a bowhunter, an unusually pretty coyote, a big badger, a cloudburst that muddied the Clearwater River with a torrent of mud and gravel down a ravine that blocked the road.  Met a cute middle aged lady who had just killed her first turkey.

I'm as restless on the road as I am at home.  I'm not finding what I'm looking for because she is gone.  I keep discovering that in new ways.

Below is a pic of the town of Clyde, Washington.  It's 65 years since my last time there.

Sounds like a great adventure. We used to vacation somewhat like that - see something that sounded interesting and we would head that way. Now my wife wants to KNOW that we have a motel reservation which limits the 'let's go that way' travel.
