Title: EHD
Post by: msmith on September 30, 2025, 07:25:59 AM
Any of you guys seeing the results of EHD? Looks like KY, OH, and WV are hit hard this year. Went to a local lake a couple of weeks ago and it stunk of dead animals. I've heard of people in some localized areas not able to have cookouts because of the odor. We've been pretty lucky as only one dead carcass has been found on our place. I have an aerated pond and a water trough that the cattle drink from that the deer frequent. The moving and exchange of water keeps the midges at bay I would imangine.

I live in northwest Ohio and last year was when we got hit - HARD. Estimates of 60% (minimum) herd loss. This year it is in southeast Ohio. The local Boy Scout camp at the edge of town had around 200 that they removed and others that they could not get to.

It's a normal thing here. We have a few deer almost every year that get it, but dry years are the worst. We may go a few years without it, but it always rears its ugly head from time to time.
