And sure have a LOT of crap.
I always wondered if they enjoyed that nice warm light bulb under them at night. Kind of like a redneck incubator. I figured the parents ate thousands of bugs feeding all three of them so they earned their rent in that spot.
Robins do eat bugs, but their main diet is worms.
Baby robins eat soft insects, earthworms, and regurgitated food. Their parents feed them up to 100 times a day because they grow very fast.
Feeding Stages and Diet
• First few days: Parents feed hatchlings soft, partly digested or regurgitated insects and worms.

Grasshoppers seem to be the main diet at the moment. The yard is adjacent to a large hayfield that is crawling with hoppers.
I live in a city so our parent robins are too lazy to fly a mile to pick up a grasshopper. It is just easier for them to drop down from the nest into the yard, grab a fat juicy nightcrawler, and fly it back up to the nest. They are so used to people that you can sit in the yard and they will harvest nightcrawlers while you sit there.
